I didn't say it wasn't easy... I don't have the funds and it only has 89k on it.

How much does it cost to have the head machined?

          $40~$70 for a basic deck.

Unless you want to do all this work again, get the head decked, and METICULOUSLY clean the deck surface of the block.

any tips? I've got a decked head ready to go in but I am not sure of the steps besides the headgasket and torque pattern on the head. Ive heard scotch brite pads work well.

                  Anything else I should check?

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I used scotch brite pads and Purple Power, but I didn't deck the head.

                    Lesson: deck the head.

I wouldn't use scotch brite. Use sand paper and a block. The scotch brite will break down and if any particles get into your oil passages, basically just putting abrasive dust in your oil.
