That is a car I would be very nervous about buying used, just like the Evo and WRX. Too many boy racers who think 'omg race car' and just trash them. Plus, at around 25k they won't go down that much for a slightly used one. You will save a few grand sure, but nothing crazy.

All depends on how much volume actually comes to the market. Dealers are claiming small volume (likely just hype), Subaru hasn't said anything yet. Also, you can still get some very nice, clean EVOs and STis, but you will pay top dollar for them (but still a good price compared to new).

I would wait at least a year or two before purchasing, new or used. That way they can work out the teething problems, a turbo/STi version might be released, or the used market might be more established.

Yeah, it is a brand new engine/car so it could have some problems early on.

Liking this discussion going on. I've only recently found about this car (in the last month or two maybe?), and am strongly considering getting one, but not sure if it'd be good to get one used or not. Does anyone know if Toyota will be selling them over here? Or will it just be Subaru and Scion? The price point is within my range and the driving-focus of the car for the price sounds too good to pass up.

We get the Subaru and Scion, no Toyota.

Dammit. Wish I could say you're all wrong....

Things went downhill once they figured out how to make horsepower. The 2.2L is unkillable...the rest, not so much.

Basically, once someone said "Hey, let's make it open deck!" things quickly went to shit. A closed-deck 2.2 is about as indestructible as, well, anything.

                            True.

Mine's open deck though, only the 2.2T was closed. That said...mine doesn't have the power to have any issues. Flying spaghetti monster knows, I've tried, hard, to kill the damn lump with no success.

Did you ever get the head resurfaced after the last HG you replaced died instantly?
