Why powdercoat rotors...? If the braking surface is coated your brakes won't function as well..... If it's the hats/non-swept area, then that's fine. Never heard of that brand tho.

HP+ is plenty fine for a DD; it's hilariously fun to out-squeak buses. I DD on em, but if noise is an issue then HPS is prolly just fine.

well the coating on the rotor itself instantly wears off during break-in.

so why bother with them in the first place? How much do they cost?

Also, who here is going to sign up for the May BMW CCA driving school at HPR? We gotta get an E30/people-under-50-yo contingent to go. Passing rich people in new BMWs in 20 year old dented oil burning E30s FTW!

David: I am SO doing the driving school! I actually know one of the driving instructors, he'll probably be my instructor. but first i need new brakes. And you better believe that the M42 will be screaming the whole way!!!
Buy the more aggressive pad and put up with the squeaking... I can honestly say I've been happy to have aggressive compounds on the street before, and if you take a lesser, or stock-ish compound to the track, I can only guess as to how fast you'll be glazing them over and scaring the christ outta yourself going into each corner... I have the HP+ like David, and I'm planning on doing all 4 caliper rebuilds, as well as install my ATE fluid and Bimmerworld SS lines soon... I honestly don't think it's going to cut it at the track... Just saying.

Oh, and I'd highly suggest not letting / getting your friend as your instructor.... You'll probably want someone who doesn't know you, who can view your style and yell at you if you need it etc.....

I've had brake fade even with HP+ pads on my E30 while on track. They're no comparison to real track pads, but they are a great compromise for beginning HPDE and DD use. The fade I had wasn't really a fault of the pad, more a fault of me using them too much.

HPS will likely shit itself on track, but I have only anecdotal evidence of that.

The HP+ pads are amazing though for DD/auto-x/canyon running/spirited driving/novice HPDE. As Ben knows, once they warm up Oh Em Gee the car stops fast. I made great use of the pads on Sunday's drive. The squealing is TOTALLY worth it IMO.

THIS. Friends will look past or not notice things. That's not a quality you want in an instructor.

Take my advice on the pads and instructors... I made good use of may pads, but only at the end.... I didn't use my brakes hardly at all, even while going 100mph uphill into a 25mph corner... Properly downshifting and knowing the car's on-road limits FTW.... I didn't push too terribly hard... some people were being just stupid

ha if my tires were warm I could have done that, only at the end did I get them up to temp. 195s don't grip that well....brakes are good.

Yes and no- I know the canyon quite well and was fully in control of the car. I wasn't driving past 7/10ths.

Admittedly, not the best idea on a canyon road, but still somewhat safe.

I was flogging the piss out of the car tho hahahaha
