.....have to agree with 325ix on this one, Chevy has a track record for not keeping up with the power curve of innovation, at least as far as their general technology goes. Showy, but idiotic engineering. Ford actually has some decent stuff, as long as you're not talking about early 90s (aka Ford Probe).

If you are, you may as well just tape kleenex boxes to your feet, put a spaghetti strainer on your head and call yourself a spaceship.

I disagree. With either companies, there are duds and gems. The 90s ford 5.0 motor os shit, and stupid cheap. Lsx is really damn pricey, and makes stupid power/tq. Ls7 is the cream of the crop, like the new ford 5.0. SBC from late 80s to early 90s is also garbage.

Chevy motors are super reliable, cheap to mod, and make obscene power. Ford motors are 1/3 the price, not nearly as reliable, and make nowhere near the power for the price nor mods.

                      SBC >> *

True, both have their embarassments and achievements. I am actually less familiar with chevy motors in general, and the few I have seen were ill-conceived (WTF 83 Skylark) or had a fondness for seizing oil pumps (not sure what it came out of....somethin somethin 327).

I think though, that reliability would be a function more of the owner's driving style and maintenance habits than the motors themselves. I have yet to see either one give up the ghost after being cared for (reference Ford Expedition whose valve train could be seen only after chipping away hardened oil shale).

In either case, all my practical knowledge is 90s and earlier because i don't have money to tinker with newer shit (and neither does my school). Though we do have a 2008 SHO, and that thing was a piece of work! Definitely not mod friendly, but very efficient.

Also, I'm not clear what you mean by 'mod'. Are we talking ground effects and KN cone filters? As far as I'm aware, any significantly useful mod will not be cheap.

In any case, IMHO there's a reason that GM needed to borrow money from me in order to function and Ford didn't.

Plus I think we may both be subject to confirmation bias in which we unconsciously find only information to support our pre-existing viewpoints.

Wait, did I just write that? Dangit, that must mean the weekend is over.

In a slightly unrelated note, I hate dodge just because of their annoying "it's got a hemi" marketing scheme. Actually, I hate it because the scheme IS WORKING.
A truck with a "hemi-powered" decal on the windshield is the automotive equivalent of dudes wearing TAPOUT clothing, ie it's the same as holding a sign that says I AM A GIGANTIC FUCKWAD.

I haven't heard of said Ford expedition w/ shale mod....

The GM comment is unfounded lol... They didn't go into financial trouble because of their crappy engines Peter... Tell us how you really feel.
I'll go ahead and say that Ford's alive not because of their sales to John Q. Smith... They're alive and well because of their fleet sales.. Think about it... Vans, trucks... Build em in large quantities, w/ no options for cheap, and sell em by the boat loads...

I hate Dodge because literally everyone I've met, seen, encountered who drove one, is a complete twat. Also, I don't think the hemi title is rightfully awarded to the new stuff.... In my book, there was only 1 Hemi, and it existed before i was born.

like all american car companies, both ford, dodge, and GM have made their share of piles of worthless shat. I have first-hand experience of the extent of the worthless pile that is the first gen Taurus SHO:

My buddy had one, mid-90s, automatic, and went on and on about how fast it was. My stock '87 Acura Legend stomped it in a drag race. Also, I have little respect for a "fast" ford that has a Yamaha engine. Also, I have been involved with the maintenance for the SHO, and it was a weekly thing, and very difficult, and VERY expensive. Eventually my buddy just parted the car out.

Likewise, GM has made their slew of worthless piles, like the Corsica, Celebrity, etc etc. For me, the one thing GM has going for them is the Corvette. Everything cool from GM is usually Corvette related. Ford's signature muscle car/supercar (in some cases) is the Mustang, although some can argue the GT, which is has significantly less production numbers (and less generations) than the Corvette.

                            And IMHO, Corvette >> Mustang

also, I am not a fan of the new Camaros. waaay too huge.
