Anyone want this for cheap or know how much I could sell it for? Scratched up, unknown history.

Agreed. Craigslist or eBay. I think 952 was rapid rise.

I think I am better picking a bike that fits me well and then learning what components I want upgraded, etc.
^ Do this. As a novice you won't know the difference in components, as you grow as a rider & wear stuff out, you'll find what you like and what you don't. For $800 you can get a well spec-d hardtail or a bottom of the barrel fully suspended bike. I'd go for the former, you can have tons of fun on a good hardtail, and maintaining a crappy full squish bike can be pricey. Be sure to have drive train & suspension parts checked for wear if you're buying used, replacing and overhauling this stuff can get expensive quickly.

                ^^Agreed.

Brad, if you don't have a good local shop, I'm a fan of Performance Bike up in Boulder, they'd probably be willing to look at a used bike and let you know how messed up/golden it is.

Thanks, I am going to get a new bike. I don't want to deal with fixing parts with a used bike that's been through who knows what.

I am checking out wheat ridge cyclery this weekend. They carry specialized and GF (trek) which are the only brands I am really interested in at this point.

I would stay away from treck models pre 08-09, but i guess that depends on what your looking at, for fullys or dj styles, newer is def a lot better in their case. idk how old of models they carry but some bike shops do

I am only interested in the Trek "Gary fisher editions" aka 2011 GF rebadged as a trek.

Old news, they just got rid of the gf brand and are selling "gf signature" branded treks to simplify things.
