          thanks for all the help everyone! I just ordered the turner brake lines and more fluid. I need to figure out where I want to buy calipers from so hopefully the brakes will be good to go soon.

          Leaking brakes is dangerous and you should not drive the car until it is fixed. Seriously, don't drive it!


          What is wrong with the Harge's? My 6 minutes in Colorado tell me that the streets here are far more beat up than a race track. The probability of you having an off are slim in a HPDE, remember, it's about teaching you how to drive on a track, not lower lap times.

          I would just drive the car on track with the hartge's. The tires will be familiar to you, so it won't be another learning curve to worry about.

          Windshield replacements are bout $150 installed, and you will be amazed at how nice a clear windshield is!




          For the price of a set of star specs, you can have your car up and ready for a HPDE...

            I bought the D-forces for a reason :)

            I will just buy tires for them, it's not a big deal. I only put a few thousand miles on the hartges so I can't say I know the tires on there well enough for it to matter.

              Hey everyone

              I'm new to the E30 scene. I bought mine back in September and have been driving it daily. First manual car I've owned. The goal was to have a fun cheap car that I could learn manual in and autocross in. I've got manual down enough for around town driving, now I'd like to really learn to push my car.

              I'll be heading down to PPIR on Sunday for the Rocky Mountain Solo event. It'll be my first time. The plan was just to wait until the summer season, but I got some tires so I'm going down. Just wondering if anybody else will be there? It'd be great to meet other E30 owners.

                  After the BMW CCA HPDE people usually get together for lapping days at HPR. Usually people post about it on the BMW CCA Yahoo Groups. I can relay if you're not on there. Your best bet might be to get your car prepped and meet up with that group. I bet we could find a willing instructor to give you your own mini school. The only trade off would be having to share the track with other non-like minded people. That said I think the lapping days at HPR are pretty regimented. The first track day is like drinking out of the fire hose anyway. It might be a good way to get your feet wet, then do the fall school at PMP.

                  My break through came when I rode in an instructor's track prepped E36 M3 in the middle of the day.

                  Your first day will be on learning the line, being smooth, and nailing the correct apex for your line (which will be late apexs, slow in - fast out, etc.). Focusing on that the speed will just happen on it's own. You could do that with anyone who knows HPR well.

                  If we can't find an instructor who's in I bet the crew on here could get you dialed. I haven't driven HPR yet, I will have by May. I had worked my way up to A group for the spring school last year, but couldn't afford to go. I'm a little rusty, but know enough to keep out of trouble. And I'm sure there is better talent in Mountain crew too.

                  I found the HPDE experience is very similar to flight instructing. If you are accustomed to critiquing your practical appilcation of a skill, once you get the basics it's easy to self analyze, correct, and build on individual sections of the line linking them up into overall improvement.

                    Yes, keep me updated from the CCA. I will attend a HPDE as soon as I can but I might hit an open day first. Just depends on the schedule.

                    Ordered calipers today too, hopefully I can get these brakes sorted out quickly.

                          I just paid $165 for new glass from Safelite and that was through a connection. Where can you get it for $150?

                          Autocross is a great place to start and learn car control. I'm glad I did a couple seasons with a few cars before going to HPR.

                          Also, Super Blue works fine in my car.... HP+ will work fine for a beginner, and I prefer full-face just cause you have the windows open and it helps keep your face from being beat up by the wind, cause the air coming into the cabin isn't exactly friendly at 100mph
