I just put falken ze512s on my car about 900 miles ago, they aren't the best, definitely not the worst. Not as grippy as I would like, but for $66 per tire, installed they are nearly perfect.

Looking for a clean e30 shell for a project.

IIRC, the 512 is now out of production. It has been replaced by the 912 which is even better. I ran them on my DD and was very happy with them:

I just put Continental Extrememe Contact DW's on both the M5 and now the MINI. They seam like a good tire for what your looking for.

So, after researching tires for a very long time (I had the time to waste, so why not), I narrowed it down to the Dunlop Direzza DZ101's and the Falken Ziex ZE912's. I spent a lot of time reading reviews, test results, and a ton of time on TireRack.com. I'm thinking of going with the Falken's just because it seems like everyone thinks the Dunlops have high road noise, and most seem to suggest they wear faster than expected. And the price difference is like an extra $3 per tire for the Falken's. We'll see.

I put the same tires on my e30, very happy with them so far.

Eh, you pretty much are going to have to give something a shot and see how YOU like it. My friend hated his falken 512s so much he switched them out at 5000 miles. Not sure how much better the 912's are.

I actually went with some Bridgestone Potenza RE960 All Season PP tires instead. This was due to a tire salesperson (and friend of mine) convincing me that they were better, from both a specs standpoint and personal experience standpoint. These never showed up in my research b/c I was only looking at the summer tire categories, whereas these are all-seasons. Bridgestone is running a $75 rebate on them as well, making this a no-brainer. Plus, if you ask me, they look a little better (but this is obviously not a priority).

I had a set of those on my E46. I liked them a lot.
