That's what it seems, but even if the threads are stripped, why wouldn't the nut come off if I applied alot of upward pressure on the nut by leveraging up on the spring hat? I mean, what sheared off, the threads on the shaft, or the threads in the nut?

It would be the threads on the shaft, and they are likely damaged so the nut won't thread back up the shaft. I've seen it before, and something similar happened with a spark plug on my 2002.

'tis what I fear. Any easy fix? any fix at all that saves the shock? this means the shock shaft is FUBAR, and needs to be rebuilt, or is there a solution? (weld, re-tap...)

Cut the nut off carefully, then you could possibly weld and retap it. I don't know for sure. Every-time I've encountered the situation, the shock was junk anyway.

Sounds like a job for whoever buys these...

Split the nut with a dremel and pop it off to find out, maybe shaft can be saved.

since were on the topic of suspension, i see in a lot of project pictures on here people no have a spring compressor when the are taking there springs off the front. So do you not have to worry about the spring flying off with these?

You need compressors for stock springs, because the equilibrium state of the spring is much longer than the fully extended strut assembly, so it will want to push the spring hats off. Most aftermarket springs are much shorter, and will actually flop around when the shock is fully extended.

These eibachs are just barely long enough to stay restrained in the strut assembly, but you don't need spring compressors, the full extension of these eibachs is just a few threads up on the shock from being fully tightened.

It's generally the spring hat and bearing that will shoot off, not so much the spring. There are ways to take em off without a compressor but unless your installing much smaller springs it's a pita to put them back together.

Yes, taking them off is easy. Just toss an impact on the top nut, and stand back. (I do not take responsibility for any bodily or property damage caused by this method). Installing eibachs does not require compressors.

bump, when exams are over this Wednesday, I am going to open up the option for shipping on these, and they should go relatively quick at that point I presume...

You can loosen the nut with the strut installed and the weight of the car will keep the spring compressed until you raise it with a jack.

There's no replacement for a proper spring compressor:

Too bad I don't have enough use for one.
