Here is another way to deal with it:

That is sold at your local auto parts store, it is a "self-tapping" drain plug. You will need to be careful putting it in, and they are a pain in the butt when you change oil, but it is a better solution than anything else if you need to get the car on the road.

Do 1 turn in, 1/4 turn out, full turn in, 1/4 turn out with no gasket on it until it is flush, then pull it, dump a little (1/2 qt) oil through the motor to get the little shrapnel out, then plug and fill.

Just remember you are cutting threads into aluminum, be careful!

Changed the oil once on the Honda Civic I drove for about 15 or 20k, it leaked and burnt it so fast I just kept it topped off. I think it drank about a quart a week, but I used the super cheap crap and it got 40mpg, so it made up for the oil consumption!

Not that I've ever had to deal with this sort of thing. At the last minute. :)

I may just jb weld it. It might drive me nuts knowing that its like that but whatever i need to do to make the trip. Windshield urethane could be an option too to keep it from leaking and maybe then i could scrape it off and use a timesert to fix it permanently.

Just an update on my woes. The windshield urethane worked great and my pan was dry as a bone after driving a couple thousand miles so that's pretty awesome. I still have the clunk noise over bumps but i have discovered that it goes away when braking so that makes me think its brake related. I have checked and rechecked everything but haven't found the culprit yet. It also just dawned on me that my front pads started squeaking like crazy about the time I did the springs even though they have lots of life left so maybe the two are related? I looked but there doesn't appear to be any anti rattle springs for the front calipers. Is that correct? I made a thread about it on here but the board has been less than helpful so far. Any input from you guys would be much appreciated!

Did one of the caliper springs fall out when we re-installed? I am pretty sure we got everything back in there, if something didn't make it back I would have found it on my garage floor.

Also, did you take more pics of your car?

Well i figured out my rattle. When we did the springs we yanked the brake pad wear sensors and on the pads the wear sensor is in place of the anti rattle clip deal on the pad. Does anyone have an old set of old pads laying around that i could yank one of the clips off of?

I thought that those were part of the pad itself.

As I understand it you pull one off and install the wear sensor in its place. Since I removed the wear sensor the pad now rattles like a fragment of angry candy... whatever that means.
