Here is another way to deal with it:

That is sold at your local auto parts store, it is a "self-tapping" drain plug. You will need to be careful putting it in, and they are a pain in the butt when you change oil, but it is a better solution than anything else if you need to get the car on the road.
Do 1 turn in, 1/4 turn out, full turn in, 1/4 turn out with no gasket on it until it is flush, then pull it, dump a little (1/2 qt) oil through the motor to get the little shrapnel out, then plug and fill.
Just remember you are cutting threads into aluminum, be careful!
