    S14 rebuild?

    Any s14 experts locally? I've got some top end issues on mine, and need an expert. Maybe it's 2.5l time.

    I know a guy that just did my S38 head (same head with two more cylinders), he'll be doing my S14 head once I get the M5 back together and sold and I'll probably put new rod-bearings and rod bolts in the bottom end and call it a day.

      Perfect, he can learn on yours, and perfect it on mine.

      Not sure exactly what's up with mine. I think I oil starved it in a corner, and now it sounds like one of the lifters has a really bad tick. It sounds terrible on start up but gets better as the oil temp gets up. Any ideas?

          Already did a great job on my S38 head. If you're willing to wait a while, you can see first hand the work he does on my S14 head before moving a bit.

          Have you popped the valve cover? I'd check to make sure all the shims are still in their buckets, and make sure they are gapped right. Sounds similar to mine, which you're welcome to come listen to at some point if you want.

            Haven't had the cover off. Should have a look I guess, prob get to it Friday.

              So, problem solved. Believe it or not it was just the exhaust manifold leaking. It was missing a few nuts and studs. Weird. Certainly sounded like lifters! Glad it's an easy fix!

                The studs fell out? That's interesting.

                  It's common because the engine leans over so much and is buzzy. Usually it's just the nuts that go missing though.
