^ I disagree. Getting a baseline is one of the most important things you can do BEFORE you start upgrading any further. Know exactly where you're at... AFR, area under the curve, etc. Then when you add your turbo, cams, etc you can see the incremental increases you've made. You may even catch little problems, or find that a particular "upgrade" you made actually netted less power in some RPMs.

I know it sounds expensive, but the right way to do it is to baseline, then dyno after every major upgrade (on the same dyno in as similar as possible conditions). Knowledge is power, literally in this case.

+1 the idea is to establish a baseline. then add to see what mods do.

but its your car. i already know Davids car will destroy everything numbers wise.

This is the kind of response I was looking for. I'll think about it for a while...should be saving for M Systems though, but we'll see what happens. Thank you very much!

What I like is that we are getting all these e30s with different engines together on the same dyno on the same day so that we can contribute to the e30 community by showing real side by side engine coparos. Make people really consider what engine to swap.

p.s. I hope Davids car doesnt slaughter mine on the dyno...

Austin, most people doing this dyno are doing it for BASELINE reasons. It's always great to see how your car progresses after you add more mods further down the line. I'm keeping you on the list as a maybe :)

+14 on the BASELINE. Probably should have included that in my argument, but figured that was a given.. Either way, cheap dyno time is cheap dyno time, take it when you can. Plus, I have seen people hop on to a dyno just for Shitz n Giggles and come to find out they did have a problem they weren't aware of (say weird drop in AFR or a HP/TQ that does something funky.)

Or you can just stand around and laugh at my POS. The choice is yours.

Hmm maybe I should bring out the stock 300K 318i for the basest of baselines...

It kinda fun to see how much "performance" a car has lost since new, ever watch Top Gear when they do their 'Challenge's'.

I might have to baseline my in-need-of-work S50/2.93 if there's time available. makes me nervous with the noisy valvetrain, but I could just be sure to top off the oil. we'll see.

edit: Simon, you have sent $50.00 USD to BMW Oregon CCA. BOOM broke suckas step aside, ETA coming through

Salisha is. Like I said, hope you can make it Jeff. I don't think Jason is doing it but we'll see I guess.
