Good thing I dont have an e30 then :p. I can bring a few tools if need be. The way I did it was lifted the car, unbolted the motor mounts, jaked the engine up from the A/C. It gives you just enough space to get the pan out. Will you have an air compressor?

It's a good time to change the motor mounts as well. I've changed my oil pan more time than I care to admit so if you have any questions...

                      Already have one.

and i didnt break it from hitting something, the threads are fucked up for the drainplug so its kinda overkill anyway.

anyways tip: I had trouble keeping the gasket on the mating surface and ALLLL the holes aligned for the bolts to go through. I zip-tied the gasket to the pan every few holes to keep it from moving around while you bolt it up then just cut them, finish bolting it up and torque. :) made it sooo much easier for me!

also some silicone might help although it will difficult things next time you need to replace it lol
A damn easy way to deal with this is simple spray glue.

Glue the gasket to the pan, it stays perfect. Don't drown it, it only need to be tacky. Silicone ALWAYS leaks later and loses torque, don't use it on a pan gasket (on BMW anyway...old chevys? have at it) OR a valve cover.
