I did the a/c trick to jack the engine up and it worked fine. Pain in the butt getting the pump out and in, but doable. Stripping the threads on one of the front holes didn't help anything. Careful with all the ones that go into aluminum or have a helicoil kit handy.
The spray glue idea is top-notch, Luke, I'll have to remember that trick.

Lots of good info in this thread. Thanks for coming to the rescue guys!

Also the time on when we start really depends on the expected arrival time of the new pan. Personally I like getting started early!

Glueing the gasket works great. And another tip from when I did it, if you drop the PS rack, make sure that you put it back up before bolting up the new pan, cause it will not go back with it in place.

Could just stick two bolts through the pan and gasket on opposite corners to hold the gasket in place instead of messing with glue, or anything else that's not supposed to be there....

I work saturday morning but my shift ends at 1230 so i might be able to make it to northgate by 1. i did my pan before, i used a car jack to lift the engine instead of a cherry picker (i dont have one) and it worked out great.

Cool. We have a cherry picker and a couple medium sized floor jacks. Only have two available Jack stands at the moment. The others are holding the wrecked ix in the air.

Okay to let those who are interested in helping/hanging out, Stephen and I plan to get started around 10am. We're hoping to be done around 1ish, but you know how that works.

Feel free to come by but its BYOBB if you're into that kinda thing. Donuts wouldn't be bad either, but most of all, if you've done this before bring your knowledge and maybe some helpful tools. I have the basic stuff but more is always better.

My address is 10721 Evanston Ave. Seattle, WA 98133.
