I will make this sort of a blog and try to get some pics of the progress. Im following the instructions from here It will probably take me the rest of the day to finish this, so anyone bored in the Lynnwood area or close enough to drive over is more than welcome to drop by.
Start:
4pm - Im about 6 hours behind my original start time because i couldnt get the replacement parts as i had planned to last night. Good news is that Paolo (kid325e) is letting me borrow some tools to make taking the fan off easy. Other than that I should be good to go... Here we go!:drink:
4:30pm - hoods off! haha
5pm - Coolant is all drained, about to deal with the fan. i can see why this is a pain if you dont have the right tools. im kicking myself now for not getting new radiator hoses and carquest just closed.. fuuuuuuuuu
5:20pm - The right tool always gets the job done! Fan is off, radiator is out
5:30pm - I hit my first problem. I dont have the right allen wrench for the rotor. Anyone local to the rescue???
5:40pm - T15 torx saves the day! Its not the right tool, but it fit and i didnt force it and it broke the screws loose! rotor doesnt look to hot. i see a new cap & rotor and probably wires job soon along with the new radiator hoses.
6pm - Just took the next radiator hose off and im making a mess in my garage even with a pan underneath the car. The DIY thread on e30world recommended draining the coolant from the tank and I skipped it, but I strongly recommend it now! haha
6:30pm - Been sidetracked cleaning up the coolant mess and then what appears to be an oil pan with 25 years of oil sludge. fun stuff, but now its back to work removing the v-belts
7:45pm - A.D.D. continued to sidetrack me as I took my sweet ass time removing the v-belts because I cleaned all the parts and also scraped off a whole shitload of crud off. weight savings ftw! either way, all the belts are off now and im pretty much ready to take the timing belt off. but im hungry. time for dinner. back to work in 30.
8:30pm - Back to work! Time to set motor to TDC and get the belt off
9:00pm - Cam set to TDC. Time to do more cleaning because the block is so dirty I cant seem the timing marks!! lol not sure how the hell it was done before. No way it got this dirty in the last 9 years & 58k miles, assuming that was the last time it was done... hmm actually maybe it did get that dirty since the last time it was changed
10:00pm - Timing belt and water pump are removed, scraping water pump gasket area clean to start reinstalling everything. Realized I dont have the tools to change the cam, int shaft & crank seal, so Im kinda bummed about that... but I must press on.
11:00pm - Timing belt is on. Will check everything to make sure its legit. And then I will check it again!! back to work!
11:30pm - Off by one sprocket...
