like 3 months ago I had the idea for a mobile website where you could have ad-hoc group chats with built-in mapping exactly for situations like this. that would be beyond handy right now.

Get an iPhone/Android phone. There are plenty of apps that pull this off quite nicely :)

I'm looking for a Lachssilber Passenger Fender and Hood. PM if you have one or both to sell!
The point is that you shouldn't need a platform specific app for something that should be on the web. You can do it better with web technologies on more platforms. No one needs to download an app, have to install updates, share screen names, none of that stuff. The entire thing can be run from a browser with gusto.

Price check on Vagiclean, aisle five. I repeat: price check on Vagiclean, aisle five. That's Vagiclean. We've got a customer down here with a full-on fallopian fungus. I'm baking a loaf of bread and I think it's sourdough.
pretty foul looking, but the overall point that i'm trying to make is that you don't need an app for any part of that. you can do it out of a web browser so people don't need to have some crappy app open or download updates or anything. you can just point a browser to it and it would just work.
If I had a free weekend I'd just do it myself and be done with this mess.

So many ways I want to disagree with your wording.
Platform specific apps give the best HMI experience.
There is no reason a platform specific app can't have cross platform compatibility.
Now, this might make for a good web app, and if you want to broadcast your location to anonymous people, great. I don't think I'd join such a website though :\
To each his own!
