Looking for a job in Oregon

    Any tips, leads or suggestions?

I'd like to move to Portland but am open to other cities. My wife and I are both in the medical field. She just got her OR nursing license. I'm in non-clinical management (patient access/finance/billing).

I've casually applied at a few places but now that she has her OR license I'm focusing 100% on relocating.

Also, what's a manageable salary for 2 people in OR?

^Manageable salary is pretty variable depending on where you want to live. Saw your other thread, a good friend of mine runs the coding dept. at Mercy Hospital here in Roseburg and may be able to help you find a position should you want to live cheaply (the economy here is in the shitter).

I'm not super high maintenance. I don't know anything about roseburg but I'm open to it. I just want out of TX.

Chase down Ken C, he does something medical and has for years, he might have some ideas.

Think of it though, you might be able to ride a sky-car to work!

Ken and I have spoken. I'd love to work where he works - in fact he works at the only hospital that has a level 1 trauma center with an air ambulance - so I think I'd be a good fit for the right position there. I just haven't seen that the right position is available.

Also, I've ridden on the air tram. It's a bit scary.

guy i went to hs with is the hr manager of providence hospital in sw portland. the way he describes it competition for jobs is fierce.

Its impossible to say if your job is limited to just a few things.

Overall the job market in portland is very good especially if you can get away from the downtown about 20 miles.

take a look at west portland suburbs like beaverton tigard etc too

I called providence and wasn't very fond of the recruiter that I spoke with. They have a few positions that I'm well suited for if anyone there would give me the time of day.

It's the same here - entry level positions get well over 500 applicants within a few days. It's just a matter of finding a way to stand out to someone who wants to listen to you. The problem with HR is their incentives. They want to fill positions and fill them fast - so it's more about timing than anything else. Also, I'm in a shitty situation. They are going to promote from within if they can - so I'm at an immediate disadvantage when it comes to anything other than an entry level job.

well its a true story I know him well and went to hs with him and hes a good friend.

I dont think that would help you in any way hes kind of a by the book sort of personality.

his particular hospital has lines of people trying to transfer to from all the other ones.

I'm not picky about location. I'll commute. It can't possibly be as bad as commuting in houston.

                      its not at all

portland is not like houston. its beautiful and the only traffic is one way at rush hour.

ya theres tons of hospitals I wouldnt know where to start from a distance.

Theres the west suburbs of the beaverton area and the east suburbs of the milwaukie type area.

                      Theres hospitals everywhere though.

theres the washington state suburbs of vancouver but when I was there I always heard that area sucks for jobs.

I'm open to Vancover only because they don't pay state income tax there. I have a pretty good idea what the main hospitals are but some of the private ones are a bit off the radar. Fortunately I have a Portland address to put on my resumes - otherwise I don't think I'd get any attention at all.

Live in Washington and work in Oregon you get to pay Oregon tax. Not to mention that the commute across the river to Oregon isn't much fun and may include a toll in the future (I-5 bridge anyway).

I wish you luck, I had a hard time when I was looking to relocate out there b/c they just don't have the large medical centers like some other states do. I'm also in non-clinical healtcare administration, but unfortunately to make the most of my skill set the center hiring me needs to have a solid organ transplant program with 100+ transplants yearly and be looking to grow. :/
