My wife may be starting a nursing position up there as early as May. They're paying for relocation and giving her a $1500 per month housing stipend. If all of that works out then I'll be going with and just finding a job when I get there.

So, I may be moving up there pretty quickly. Apart from near downtown what are some other nice areas to live? I want to avoid the NE side I think.

Certain parts of inner NE can be a nice place to live, like close to Mississippi Ave for example.

There are really so many nice places to live in Portland that it's hard to say "live here or here".

Do you know where her job will be located in Portland? That could influence where you live, too. Certain commutes can be pretty bad, especially if you have to cross the river during rush hour.

i also couldnt pick just one nice spot they are all nice.

I liked the SE part the best in the brooklyn and woodstock and mt tabor neighborhoods,
and the SE suburbs of milwaukie and sellwood, right along the williamette. Tons of forest and green.

Actually I don't yet. She's going through an agency so they are quiet about which hospital until it's a sealed deal. I just know it's in Portland. I just applied tonight at SW Medical Center in Vancouver so we'll see where that goes.

              Check out:
              Kaiser
              Multnomah County
              Adventist Medical Center
              Willamette Falls

Kaiser is expanding and seems like a great place to work.
I am a nurse for the county but I don't have any pull to help you out. I can say the nursing wages are some of the best in the country but the jobs are harder to come by. You guys should be alright for a while especially with the housing stipend. The house that I was just renting was $1550/mo and in N Tabor/ Montavilla neighborhood. Stay west of 82nd and you won't find a bad place to live. Good Luck!

I'm pumped. I've been cleaning house and selling stuff off/giving stuff away like crazy. I'm going to try to live a much more simple, humble life in OR.

In this, and any economic climate, it's the best thing to do.
                      Kudos.

Don't overlook Bend if it becomes an option. I travel all over Oregon on business and Portland and Bend are where it's at, most definitely. I absolutely love Bend.

I'll be moving to Portland on June 6th - so I guess I'll make it to the picnic. My wife got a job with Kaiser in clackamas. Now I need to find something...

I will be there soonish, in a few weeks with my motorhome. I wont be moving with my e30 right away so no need to go to bmw meets lol.
                              More toyota motorhome meets.

unless I find someone to drive it up there....

and clackamass is an awesome area thats near where I was last year, SE suburbs of portland. I liked the town of milwaukie and the suburb of sellwood.
