My assumption is almost always that if something is built as a fountain, and there isn't a sign saying don't drink it, that it's pretty close to alright. I drank over a liter of it and felt nothing but more hydrated. It was quite tasty.

I trust most springs more than mall fountains

i wish i got a picture of that...(not the porta pottie, but the fountain)..and if you studied it closer Earendil, you would've seen in the stone, was a missing plaque, or a square cutout where a plaque *was* embedded...now dilapidated, and long gone only added to the mystery of if it was good or radio-active.... you feeling any super powers (yet) ? ;)... either way, im too pragmatic to take a chance.

          and slacking...yeah, a little...i have been chipping away at 500+ pix a day...and...well 2 days of shooting. 5k images takes a bit to chew...hey, why'd you turn around ?
i found this set (i have about 20 of em)..but this was the closest i could get..missed the whole spinout....but i did get Les sprinting..

like before, open in a new tab, and click it again to blow it up

Les is hardly done. He just did the e30's so far. He's been locked in his room editing for the last few nights.

Super powers? You obviously didn't see me driving or you'd know ;)

Funny thing is, I was also thinking that I was being pragmatic. Would one really put a fountain in the desert, at the top of a mountain that people use for athletic training and races, and expect that they wouldn't use it as a fountain? That just isn't practical, and doesn't make sense to me. Theoretically it could have been poisoned recently, or build it with a chunk of radioactive material at the bottom, but I didn't think so :)

I was also one of the first in a longer group near the end of the day and had an empty water bottle and a long wait at the top. The definition of practical changes in scenarios like that :)

i have seen many natural springs, and the cleanest (afaik) was in the grand canyon (miles of filtering rock)...but it would be nice to know for certain if the water there is consumable.

wouldn't suprise me that it was safer then bottled water.

Well boys, here is the answer I got when I emailed Sandra who is the head of the Maryhill Museum and the woman I worked with when renting the road...

The fountain is a spring feed fountain and it is not safe to drink. We had a plack but it keeps getting stolenL It was for water for your cars when going up the hill and over heating. If you note the creek that runs along the road, it comes from a spring. I do see some people still drink it, but drink at your own riskJ
                    :ohsnap:

I seem to vaguely remember such a plaque from prior years. I knew there was a reason I didn't remember ever drinking from it (being my 4th event I've attended at the Loops Road). Sorry I didn't have info on this before the event...

Any of the water drinkers find themselves running to the bathroom Sunday night? :firehop:

Well as I said, I had no problem drinking it, and springs tend to get filtered well enough from the common things that keep a person from drinking from mountain streams/rivers.

And the lack or motivation to keep a warning near the fountain means that they don't get many angry letters from sick people, or lawsuits :)
But perhaps add this to the list of things to note in the future to make it a better event. My little E30 moved maybe a needle tick towards hot running 4k-6k the entire way up. My body on the other hand was suffering from heat overload :)

Okay, maybe we can use that spring to fill up one of these at the top next year:

And how about sending our photog's out with super soakers??? It could add a new level of excitement, especially for vert drivers like me!

But seriously, if there were a pool with water you would find me sitting there with my feet in it and my head dunked.

please rate your pictures... i know i didn't have a good day.

here is the 'my preferred' pics ....which is up to 100ish//

here are all from the Olympus at the top of the run

and here is the 'ALL NIKONs' which will be deleted someday...final count for sunday is 2,061...

the site will allow you to slightly edit your pictures if you join, or download them yourself and do what you will.

if you want me to do it, i need a :
                              -pm...don't post here.
                              -filename (link is fine too)
                              -suggestions or projections
                              -time

keep in mind, i picked this camera up 1 day prior to the events, and didn't set them to save all pix by time/date....in-so-doing, they are now a bit out of cronological order...which i can fix, but will take more time...and i would rather you all see what i got sofar, as im still doing saturdays events too. (which is another 2k pix)...

i also realise, i had very little expression, and missed a few opertunities, but i think some of the better shots were by the oak tree with the wind-turbines overhead..this was for a limited time, as the olympus was set to wide angle, and the batteries ran out...next time, i have more ideas.....(which i only seem to get at night, while reflecting on the day i just spent).

                              thanks for your patience.

and video is still on the way. :)
