Thanks r3v'rs who made this event today, especially to Stacy, Daniel, John and Les who stood out in the hot sun to take pictures and shoot video today.
      It was awesome.

I didn't take many pictures since we had so many great people with lenses out there today, but here are a few:

So now that the event is over, what would make it better for next year? We're talking about doing a 2 day event to allow more people to run. What would you suggest to improve the event.

          Lunch included?
          More shade
          Extra batteries for radios

          Please share your suggestions.

I say all of the above. Not even that you have to provide the shade but maybe a list of creature comforts that help take the edge off. Also, I think a good bonus would be a tool list sign up so everyone brings something the group can use (meaning larger items like jack stands, floor jack, etc).

            I also vote a pool

It was a lot of fun. Thanks guys. Sorry I had to duck out early. It just got WAY to hot. Started to feel a bit sleepy and didn't want to risk anything.

The event was run very smoothly and safely by the organizers, that is the biggest thing and was carried out well. Thank you for that.

The only suggestions I have revolve around the conditions. I was prepared to drive my car in hot weather. I was not prepared for how little shade there was, and how much water I would need to consume. Both are my own problem, but in the future it would be good to have the organizers either provide lots of shade and water, or put it in bold print in the signup that a gallon of water should be brought per person, along with a way of making shade for themselves.

I'm used to how my body reacts to heat, and I've also spent time making important and critical decisions in said heat. I was aware of how my brain and body were starting to perform and ended up quitting around 2:00 and watching people go. I was mildly concerned that there were other drivers that, though skilled, may not be as self aware.

I know that many of us out there would have readily shared our water or shade had someone asked. I should clarify that what I'm talking about is protecting those drivers that don't know they need more water or more shade, and protecting them by throwing both water and shade at them, instead of waiting for them to ask. A giant cooler with a large sign marked "WATER" would be good in the future.

If it had been sub 80 degrees I would have thought the event perfect :)

Agreed, Trayson has run and has participated in several of these. He's definitely created a good system for making sure there is only one way traffic on the road

Noted and I agree, we'll have more of both shade and water next time.

                  Thanks for the feedback guys.

shade... maybe a volunteer day (across all groups, merc, porsche, bmw, skaters, bikers, etc) to erect an alloy slant cover along the wall of hey ...where all the cars could park in shade all day... i would be down, and volunteer a truck.

dirtbike(s) to get to some far off place, for photography...or just make sure Stacy goes, she is a trooper...climbing hills in flip flops.

otherwise, i had a very good time with all the people, and drives i was able to catch. this is one very special event.. and stay tuned, pix are being processed.

                        So true

The event was incredible guys. I had a wonderful time. As has been said above me more shade would have been nice. Water didn't seem to be too much of an issue to me this year because people who had a lot of it were nice enough to share.

Suggestions for next year? Remote control camera helicopter that almost showed up this year would be cool. Maybe a more official event the night before, although hanging out at the hotel bar with some of you was a blast.

                        Cheers guys

Yeah, myself and a few others took the LOoooooong way there (via windy ridge) and had a really late lunch at like 3pm. So eating early wasn't gonna happen for us. it was so damn hot that all I wanted to do saturday was jump in the pool, only to find out that the pool was out of order. Shilo inn FAIL!!!!!!!!

Next year I'm looking into the Celilo Inn. It looks way nicer. A few of us ended up going to Riverfront park to cool off. Then we zipped over to the Clocktower Ale house. I left my phone # list in the hotel room, so my bad on anyone that was waiting for info from me. Ran into John and company though and had a good dessert. (still didn't feel like eating a dinner, even at 8pm.)

After that, I was pretty beat, so just went to the hotel room and watched some olympics w/ the wife. Pretty tame night for us.

Next year since we're not doing a "pre-drive", it'll be a lot easier to set a specific time for a group dinner or what-not.

This is my 3rd time putting on this event for the CCA and it gets better every time. So I'm sure next year will top this one.

As far as the heat: in prior years we've targeted late July which tended to be a *bit* milder. But the weekends I wanted were booked so I had to push this year's event out further. I hesitate to go too early in the season as even east of the Mountains there could be rain. And I'd rather error on having warmer pavement than colder pavement. :-) I admit that my summer schedule dictates some of the timeframe... I have my son 1/2 the summer, and even as much of a car freak as he is, making him hang out for a day or two of the loops road isn't something that I'm gonna do. (he's six).

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. We take it all into account and try to balance everything out to continuously improve the event. This one is definitely my favorite and my passion, so it has a special place with me.

The first year I went (Last year) I don't recall there being any shade other than the BMW CCA EZ up. So we definitely upgraded on shade this year. That was nice! Also, last year there was little water to go around so I made sure to have a cooler full and that helped out a lot not to mention I John also had a bunch! :) I think next year we should have a set time of like 30 minutes if people want to go grab some food and/or ice cream.

As for the date, I really like the time frame you choose because it is always the weekend after my birthday... Lol ;)

Next year, if I am doing photography again, I will have to get an EZ up for myself or something Lol. And Maybe some knee high boots for stomping through those sticker plants.

and i forgot to take a sample of the spring water to test...

i have seen many natural springs, and the cleanest (afaik) was in the grand canyon (miles of filtering rock)...but it would be nice to know for certain if the water there is consumable.

wouldn't suprise me that it was safer then bottled water.

I'd be curious of that too. I forgot to ask the Maryhill Museum about it. I did see a couple participants drink from there, and I don't think anyone had to destroy the porta-potti as a result. But I didn't take any chances. ;)
