24v>12v for smooth acceleration, boost is fun though. Ryan will have his M20 turbo done soon hopefully, similar setup to kamotors original m20 build, 300-400HP/TQ.

I want to spend under 3500 closer to 2k if possible, the 24v motors max out my budget and are slower than m20t m30t builds. I plan on using this as weekend car so better gas mileage would be nice but I don't need the crazy reliability of a 24v. And any megasquirt set up has launch control and flat foot shifting is tits. While I have experience with megasquirt turning is something that only experience teaches so I wouldn't mind having one to play with.

Go m20t, cheap simple and good for reliable 300 whp/ sideways easily

m20t was my number one choice, but i plan on getting another motor and refreshing/building it outside the car and the price for a m20 or m30 are about the same. I want torque over raw power so for the m20 i was thinking a gt30 or super 20g I want full boost ~3000. So im leaning toward the m30 for the monster low end

            M30. Period. With extra periods.

Then boost that for added fun

Been having lots of turbo thoughts as of late, followed by a realization today that I'd probably destroy my ride.

This isn't going to happen man, I'll tell you that from ahead of time.
MS is already around 25% the cost of a $3k budget. Now think of all the odds and ends that aren't even arguably turbo related that you have to purchase for your build, like new vac lines, couplers, piping, exhaust, wideband, gauges, hardware, engine refreshing/tune-up components.
A backyard budget build turbo isn't fun and will not leave you satisfied unless you're some sort of organized OCD fabrication magician with access to material, tools, and parts.

A (real) gt30 isn't going to hit full boost at 3000rpm unless your motor m20 is like a 3 liter. A local 2.8l gt3071r is hitting full boost something late before 4k iirc.
An m30 swap is really fun for city driving and sliding if that's what your goals are.

Im a little flexible on budget 4k is my max for this year, I just got GC's and did a full suspension refresh so im running out of e30 funds. Im fine with buying used and building it slow. For the m20 I have also been thinking of a gt2876r but have heard it will chock a 2.5 up top, again im more interested in transient torque than peek power. Thats why I was thinking the super 20G they use the 20g compressor in a trd06h compressor with a trd05h 10cm^2 hotside for a quicker spool compared to a standard trd06h hotside.

Finding a turbo manifold for the m30 is going to be difficult so im a little worried about going down that route but I think I will be fine running N/A for a while.

Thanks, I have seen it and pending driving one will probably be what i go with. 3500 at once is a bit strong but i figure i can sell the turbo and buy another one later. And I dont need nor want 400 hp in a 2600 lbs car. There is also another m30 built for boost for 800. So finding a motor isnt the hard part, nor do I think installation will be to difficult. Whatever i put in will be rebuilt and megasquirted right away. Im fine with boosting later.

For you m30 guys what kind of mpg do you get (afraid to ask lol)?

Dont forget long run budget, NA maint = $ Turbo M20 running 350 hp maint = $$$.

Plus everyone forgets you budget M20T build is usually pretty shit.
