I want to spend under 3500 closer to 2k if possible, the 24v motors max out my budget and are slower than m20t m30t builds. I plan on using this as weekend car so better gas mileage would be nice but I don't need the crazy reliability of a 24v. And any megasquirt set up has launch control and flat foot shifting is tits. While I have experience with megasquirt turning is something that only experience teaches so I wouldn't mind having one to play with.Last edited by atlrudeboi; 08-13-2014, 03:24 PM.

m20t was my number one choice, but i plan on getting another motor and refreshing/building it outside the car and the price for a m20 or m30 are about the same. I want torque over raw power so for the m20 i was thinking a gt30 or super 20g I want full boost ~3000. So im leaning toward the m30 for the monster low endLast edited by atlrudeboi; 08-13-2014, 03:30 PM.

MS is already around 25% the cost of a $3k budget. Now think of all the odds and ends that aren't even arguably turbo related that you have to purchase for your build, like new vac lines, couplers, piping, exhaust, wideband, gauges, hardware, engine refreshing/tune-up components.
A backyard budget build turbo isn't fun and will not leave you satisfied unless you're some sort of organized OCD fabrication magician with access to material, tools, and parts.
A (real) gt30 isn't going to hit full boost at 3000rpm unless your motor m20 is like a 3 liter. A local 2.8l gt3071r is hitting full boost something late before 4k iirc.
An m30 swap is really fun for city driving and sliding if that's what your goals are.

Finding a turbo manifold for the m30 is going to be difficult so im a little worried about going down that route but I think I will be fine running N/A for a while.
