After the GC, we started leg 2 of the trip, further into AZ and stopping for the night somewhere in cali.

This was pretty uneventful, AZ was pretty boring, the night sky was pretty i will say. Not much light pollution and you could see a lot of stars, but apparently not enough for my iphone to capture a single one of them.

Once we hit cali, the terrain started to get more interesting

We stopped for the night in the hot, arid hell hole that is Barstow, CA to begin the 3rd leg of the trip

It was right off of 40 and seemed like a good place to stop. I think the biggest thing that surprises me about the southwest is the hard lines and division that occurs between sand and grass. Its quite weird getting used to coming from the PNW.

      We started driving..

      ..and driving..

Temps seemed fine in the desert heat

Then after Bakersfield, we were on 46 until we reached the 101, then south to 46 again until we hit the PCH

        the transition was like...

We started the 4th leg of the trip at the 46/1 junction. Took that all the way up the beautiful PCH up to San Fran where we stayed for the night.

The beaches and sights were really amazing

And we found some elephant seals along the route too!

              Dude!! Great stuff man.
              Loving the road trip pics.
Must have been exciting, fulfilling, scary and stressing all at the same time. But I am sure exciting and fulfilling mostly.
You must be glad to be home, to work on the car now.

I was surprised to see it this morning. I'm concerned our neighborhood won't be kind to it. Looking forward to see it's progress.

Very nice! The PCH is something everyone needs to experience at least once in their life.
First time I drove the PCH was in a 73' VW bus with 2 friends. Still to this day one coolest trip I've ever taken.

                      Good luck with the M3.

Let me take a minute to explain how the door popper system works, which from now on will affectionately be referred to as the Stupid Fucking Door System, or SFDS for short.

The SFDS comes with a remote (pictured below) which correspond to 4 different functions that the SFDS allows the driver to perform.

Buttons 1 and 2 correspond to opening, or 'popping' the driver and passenger side doors.

Button 3 opens the sunroof while button 4 closes the sunroom. Pressing button 4 while the sunroof is closed pops the sunroof up.

The key is still somewhat useful for opening the drivers side door by way of the trunk lock. When the trunk is unlocked with the key, the SFDS pops the front door.

If the battery happens to die or you leave your lights on, well the SFDS doesn't really believe either of these things will ever happen, and if they do, well you're just shit out of luck and jolly well fucked!

Couldn't you use your key to unlock the trunk and charge/replace the battery?

yes, all hope is not lost if/when the battery dies, its just a pita and also more incentive for me to get an Optima. It would prevent me from accessing anything inside the cabin though.

Nice cars btw, we both have an LCi e91 and m3

I had a SFDS that I put in when I was a younger kid. Ideally there is supposed to be a secret switch that is hidden under the car in the event you loose the remote or it breaks. It also should require just a small amount of voltage to work. There are some manual overrides I think out there. I never put one in though.

More trip pics, this time continuing on the 1 north toward San Fran

These signs were a pleasant sight

Then we finally got into San Fran and parked at the hotel. Parked next to this awesome looking GC impreza, while on gold, very clean looking and well sorted.
