I've been looking at the iX market for the past few months, and iXes just don't seem to be selling, even fairly priced ones. People love the concept of the iX, but most don't actually want to own one and deal with the particularities of one.

I think this is a big part of it. Remember, what has made the e30 popular with the drift kidz is the same thing that made the hachi popular. A small, light, RWD tossable car.

Now an IX e30 is certainly still tossable, but it's somewhat compromised by permanent all-wheel drive and the extra weight that comes with it. I think that turns off some buyers who are looking for the RWD experience.

I agree with you both, entirely. I've owned almost every kind of E30 available (aside from the M3) and the iX definitely had a different soul compared to their RWD kin. I personally love the RWD platform and would only own an iX for it's cool factor. Other than that, iX's are somewhat of a pain to work on, and aren't as fun. Shit, toss some blizzaks on any RWD E30, and it'll handle fine in the snow :up:

I know, it's crazy, most American's used to get through all sorts of Shiate weather with RWD and regular old chains. But now, it's like there's a 1/4 inch of snow, and everyone be like "oh man, need a AWD SUV for that!" and then the studded tires go on for 6 months.

We've gotten soft.


Though, it does crack me up when I see a Prius still rockin' studded tires right now.

Possibly because almost everything drivetrain related is "iX only." From what I have seen/heard/dealt with, almost nothing on the iX drivetrain can be used in anything but an iX, and the same for the opposite.

Misguided morals? Armchair restorers? I'd be willing to bet that most people in here have at least one project (you know I do, given your snarky comments in the past). If being a little disappointed seeing an uncommon example of an increasingly hard-to-find car being parted out for no reason makes one have "misguided morals", then so be it.

I know you have projects, and I’m sure there are others in here that do as well. Much respect from me. But just because you, or others have projects doesn’t mean that I have to have a project, or that if I am unwilling to have one, then I have to give the car up at a bargain basement price just to keep a potential project intact for someone else.

Like you said, your car, your decision. But to shit on those who offer up advice, or even a wrench, is pretty lame.

You’re absolutely right, Josh. It is just a car, and it will behoove those (not specifically you) who are only criticizing and not offering help or providing advice to keep that in mind too.

And given the last line in your little diatribe, you may or may not have misinterpreted my previous comment. I wasn't saying that it bass shitty that this part out was happening, I was saying it was shitty that the fog lights sold.

Man, don't pay so much attention to what's being said. Part outs are fine. It's your car, you'll make more money off it that way, and people will get things that they want for their car.

People are sentimental about stuff, but it's just stuff. This car, that car, who cares. Nobody wanted to pony up the $$ for it whole, so now you'll get likely more than that for the sum of the parts. If people were so sad to see it get parted, then they could very well have put together the money to keep it.

Honestly, I think parting cars is neat. Gives your car the opportunity to live on in the form of a bunch of other cars being that much better. 200k+ on a drivetrain and the associated maintenance is just another hassle, it clearly lived a long life.

Wednesday we had a respectful text conversation in which a price for the 3.91 differential and factory antennae was agreed upon. I expressed that I didn't want it sold out from under me and sitting in my garage was better than his, to which he agreed, telling me they'll be out in a couple days. Next I hear is he forgot about me and sold them to someone else. I told him in no uncertain terms how shitty that was and he replied about how many flakes he has to deal with, I was just another prospective buyer and cash talks. Worst part, for me, is I committed these parts to family member cars. Committed. I guess that means more to some than others...

These things can happen. I am in the midst of parting a car myself and things can slip through the cracks. We all make mistakes. Unless people keep communicating with me on what they want, I simply cannot keep track of everything and everyone. I have 25 different people who constantly text me for parts, plus another 7-10 emails coming in. It's not an easy process, I can attest to it. Especially with parting not being my full time job.

Brad is a standup guy, those in this community who know and have dealt with him can support this. I am sure he meant no harm and wouldn't do this on purpose, that is not the kind of guy he is.

It happens man. I am sure he didn't mean to do it on purpose. I also thought I had the bumpers locked in and the seats, but hey thats life. Sending money in hand is the only way to secure the parts. I am sure its not easy to part out a car and keep track of everything thats going on. Sorry you had trouble, but speaking from someone who has sold a lot of crap, someones word on CL or rev isn't the same as SOLD.
