Tire Rack and WA sales tax

I ordered a set of tires from the Tire Rack and was distressed that they're now charging WA state sales tax.

They've been doing that for a few years now, at least. It's a bummer.

I've been buying from Discount Tire Direct, no sales tax. If you order on their website they kind of hassle you about fitment and etc, but if you buy through their eBay store it's no questions asked.

I also switched to discount tire direct. The sales tax and shipping prices have killed tirerack sales for me. Discount tire direct is free shipping and no tax, plus they often have $100 off orders $400 or more.

Dtd is sweet, I got wheels and tires mounted and balanced sent to my house for something like 2900 bucks with free shipping. In store they tried to charge me 40 bucks more for the stupid tire sensors and$75 for the lug nuts that match the hardware on the bead locks that are already included with the wheels

Washington asked them to start collecting sales tax, I really don't get the tax distress though.

Because the extra $80-100 bucks on top of the expensive shipping makes the price not competitive.

                  I just looked to compare.

                  255/35/19 Bridgestone RE71

                  Tire rack
                  $1,071 set of 4
                  $54 shipping
                  $112 tax
                  $1,241 Total

                  DTD
                  $1,060 tires
                  $0 tax
                  $0 shipping
                  $1,060 total

                  DTD with certificates
                  $1,188 total

If I wait for their $100 off $400 I can lower that price down to $860 and $988 respectively. Even before the sale that is a fairly substantial price difference for the same product delivered to your door.

I've never had Tire Rack be competitive on price on anything except garbage bin level tires.

They were before they started including road hazard and sales tax.

dtd has always been cheaper in every aspect, idk why ever used tire rack.

furthermore, if you go on ebay, say a 300$ set of tires from dtd, may be about 280$ on dtd ebay page, ive saved a few more $ there aswell.

my 240$ tires have lasted 2 years and its time for more. $ well spent
.32$ a day for tires lol

I compared both sites for 225/45-15. DTD has 3 and Tire Rack has 6 to choose from.

Sign up for DTD emails to get wind of the upcoming discounts.

Tire rack has really blown up their prices.

Do not overlook big box stores like Costco.. granted not specialty tires but for the family hauler... you always are best to compare.
