i know what you mean but I dont remember the curves.
However theres a road like that in SE too its holgate. Seems like a main thouroughfair but as it goes east it turns into the middle of a park into a twisty road with no stopping.
The scenery of holgate even in the straight part is outstanding going past two colleges and basically yuppie areas.
I know for locals they probably dont even think about it but it suprised me and my friend who lived there for years agreed its a nice drive. not thrilling but suprising.Leave a comment:

driving from troutdale to corbett is probably my favorite drive. going down stark. lots of curves and the roads are usually empty.Leave a comment:

I second the drive from snoqualmie to fall city (made it many times during highschool), but one of my favorites is chuckanut road in bellingham. Pretty long, plenty of twisties, straights, and light on the police.Leave a comment:

I only lived in portland for 4 months so I barely got around. But I did see a couple of these highlights, including the east side of st helens.
But you locals are sort of missing the point that 84 is the most scenic highway. Its called oregon scenic highway, the gorge etc. Filled with photo opportunities. Once youre past troutdale you are in the gorge, its awesome.Leave a comment:

Dead Indian Memorial road is a pretty intense route... lots of sharp corners. It is pretty much built on to a cliff though so you gotta watch out that you don't lose traction.Leave a comment:

I used to love the drive to Timber, any of the roads around the coastal range are pretty sweet. When I first learned to drive, my pops would take me out on the old Columbia hwy., it's the best way to learn (especially if you are rowing gears!)
Though one of the most fun drives I have done as of late, was in May on Maui, it's the OTHER road to Hana. It's got some long stretches with slight rises that are fun at speed, plus some cool turns that remind of the Ice Road Truckers when they were in India, and a huge section of straight gravel, single lane road! Needless to say, I beat the hell out of the rental car. Hana was a let down though...Leave a comment:
