antenna stopped working. why?

as usual the stereo works perfectly and the antenna went up and down when you turned it on and off. now it doesn't go up when turned on.
all i have done is changed out the fuse with a new one, #28/30amp fuse.
still nothing.

anyone have a suggestion as to my next step for troubleshooting?

Most common problem is a broken mast. Second is a busted tab that sits between the 2 large white plastic gears, third is usually the and then there's a stripped helical drive gear. All this assumes your antenna is getting power

after replacing the fuse i noticed the lighter didn't work either... both are connected at #28
i re- replaced the fuse and then got power to the lighter again and somehow, while not noticing, the antenna went up and is now stuck in the up position.

mast is not broken.
seems there is power since it went up.

jeff, do i need to take the motor apart?

Time for a Z3/318ti antenna upgrade

Here is it is on my current car.


On my old car I had also had the 318ti base, but I used an antenna from an S2000, I liked the appearance better since it was a shorty, but the stock Z3/318ti came with does have better reception.

Unplug the antenna and run a positive jumper from your battery. Contacting both antenna wires at once should make it go down and one wire makes it go up (or vice versa...you'll figure that out). If it works your problem is body wiring. If it doesn't go up and down then you will have to take it apart.

It's possible for a bad mast to go up and not down but youdnhear the motor running. Otherwise my money is on the antenna control board. I'm wrestling with one now and none of my spare boards work
