OMG Motorworks 2.1l 318i Sedan Build

    Hey all!

A few years back my friend commissioned us to build an E30 sedan to his liking.

The plan was to find a clean E30, gut it, send it out for paint and then rebuild it from scratch (more or less). The end game was an Mtech2 sedan with BBS RS's and thats it exterior wise. We're still ironing out the plan for the interior but we're still a ways out from that decision.

He already had a motor... a 2.1l M42 built by Metric Mechanic. If you look at the website catalog for this motor... the car shown in the images is his car (now ironically I own that car albeit with an S52 now).

Over the past couple of years he purchased bits here and there in anticipation of this project finally getting off the ground.

I'll try to chronicle everything here from the beginning to bring you all up to speed to where we're at now

This was the shell that we started out with:

    Somewhat stripped down:

At the paint shop, Original BMW mtech2 stuff getting painted (we scored the front valance, bumper and rear bumper brand new):

Moving to our new shop... meant having to tow the car over there as well!

Teardown on the M42 because it had been sitting for a couple of years:

Getting ready to install the new firewall insulation:

Since BMW no longer offers a schwarz headliner anymore... we dyed it with Duplicolor Charcoal Vinyl spray. It needs another coat in a few spots but we're quite pleased with how it came out!

The next step for the interior is the glass sunroof. Still waiting on some hardware to arrive to finish that off.

We're most likely going to go the megasquirt route for engine management but haven't crossed that bridge just yet.

I'll do my best to keep this thread updated as the build continues!

Hope you guys enjoy this... We have an orange E30 M3 thats patiently waiting for us to build as well. Only so much that we can do because service work helps keep my employees paid along with the bills haha.

    :thankyou:

Awesome! It would be really cool if you guys can get that engine on a dyno at some point!

That makes two of us... well three of us including the owner! It's come a long way but we still have tons left to do. I'm stoked.

RK Tunes just opened up shop like 10min away from us  It'll get dyno tuned when she's ready. We're nearly there with a turbo E30 that we built, just having some wastegate issues. That car made abot 270whp at 7psi. Shooting for 14psi :D

Hehe that would take all the fun out of it! The customer had this 2.1l motor built many years ago.

Bits of the original build thread:

Looking forward to seeing what kind of power it'll produce with the dbilas ITB's and a proper tune.

Looking forward to all the updates! Ha, I went onto M42club and tried to unwind the last six years. So, I'm assuming that engine never made it into the 1600?

Hehe yeh it didn't end up in the 1600. That car was just too far gone. We swapped that motor into a white sedan for a period of time and then Sam got the itch again to build something cooler.

Not much of an update but we finally got the intake manifold in and a lot of the plumbing. Waiting for some more bits to arrive from the stealer so that we can install the parallel flow a/c condenser and the radiator.
