    Schrick cam card

Schlick card doesn't specify spring installed height unless one uses schrick springs.
I will be using 284/272 cam with new oem springs. Anyone know what installed height to run with this cam on OEM springs?
Per schtick:" If the standard valve springs are used, it is im- portant to increase the spring`s installed height...." - obviously....

OEM installed height per MM: 37.21mm
    compressed height 26.42mm

    Schrick spring spec: installed height:37.4mm
    min operating height :25.9mm

I guess I can try to figure it out but I can't find Schrick spec for the free length.
All I know it Schrick wire is thinner than OEM, 3.8mm vs 3.95mm - oem and their coils are just like OEM - 4 active coils.

btw, that Schrick's min operating height doesn't make any sense though. I look at pics of Schrick springs and they have 7 total coils, just like OEM (4 active, 2 inactive and 2 half coils). If you use their number for the wire D- 3.8mm, that would mean that this coil will be solid way before 25.9mm, 26.6mm to be exact.... (3.8x7)

I won't be doing the head job myself (valve cut, install) but want to make sure that the shop has as much info as possible and I'd like to verify/understand the work once completed.

    Any thoughts/info for the above?

if this is an M20 then stock springs seem to be fine with 284/272 just get new genuine double springs and call it a day unless youve done something that alters the installed height from stock.

stock is approx 68lb seat @ 1.465" installed height , 164lb nose according to MM.

this cam (and to some extent mild schricks in general) is not aggressive enough to need a different installed height

when i did my last cam i was going to use schrick springs but they were barely stiffer than stock when tested, i ended up with eibach springs but more agressive cam profile and lift than 284/272

      M20b25.
Shrick springs have smaller wire diameter with similar to OEM structure, I can see how they aren't much different from OEM as far as the rate goes. Thinner wire on Schticks does help with coil bind though. Head will have seats cut for new valves so installed height will be increased somewhat.

I just can't find conclusive number on the installed height anywhere....did see MM's 1.465" though.

As far as coil bind: I guess I could always check the clearance once assembled, just to make sure its 0.04-0.06"

if youre worried about a slightly sunken VJ then add a corresponding shim to compensate but you'll lose the same amount off your coilbind. it might be small enough to not be an issue. A spring tester comes in handy though as it allows you to check coil bind to

          It' all about your reddyline.

If you're planning on spinning past 7500, you'll break rockers with a stock cam and stock springs.

If you're sticking with stock redline, that cam will be fine with stock springs, as Digger says.

...I tend to look at nose and seat pressures, and buy/ mix springs accordingly. There
are tons out there. Beehives have become popular, and do work well.... you only have
to offset the static coils to gain a TON of clearance before bind.

          That's my thoughts...

I've ran mine up to 7500 lots of times with (new) stock springs and new rockers. They are Febi, but I got them more than a decade ago, so the quality is likely less now than it was back then. I'd go for IE HD.
