This is like asking E30 M3 money for a purple 325e.

No euro S50B32, or B30, or Evo, or LTW, or anything.

+1 on the BAT, itll get decent money because its clean, but not 40k+ money.

No doubt the OP is way high on his price, however these cars are absolutely 100% collectible, they are difficult to find in excellent condition/documented and they are quite sought after.

I mean come on, you are posting on an E30 forum, which they made millions of E30 3 series cars. Millions. And they are becoming, or have become collectible and a good example is becoming rare.

They made 72k E36 M3s in total GLOBALLY. Sift out the manual coupes, and I bet you have less than 1/2 that number in the world.

The M3 market will ALWAYS remain strong, you will always have the mass of people that wanted one and couldn't afford it as a kid and decide they want one now (or in the future), just like anything else.

How about a Mustang, Camaro or any american car? Are those not collectible?

I am not trying to be a wiseaguy, purely informative as I have been an overall M3 enthusiast since Roadfly in the mid 90s and have a few of them. I guess all I am trying to say you should look at your post 10 years from now and go

I appreciate the E36 M3 but I don't get US spec E36 M3's (save LTW) fetching over 20k, let alone twice that. They are not and never will be rare. Yes, a premium for color and mileage is fine but how much? How much for a car that you can find all day for $4-6k on the lower end of the spectrum? The only M3 that is practically bumpers, skirts, trim and mirrors away from lesser models? The only M3 that didn't get the engine it was supposed to get? I get it may take a year to find the right color combo and condition of an E36 M3 but that's not really saying much. There are plenty of them out there...too many and a year really isn't that long at all compared to other sought after cars that people search 5-10 years for. Obviously, I get nostalgia and it's very clean, ultra low mileage but this is not a significant car in the way it should have been and for that reason it is and always has been the redheaded stepchild of the litter. Since they came out they've been the car to drive and have fun with but collectible ? Too many and too watered down for the mass market. GLWS though. I agree, BAT is the best venue for this car. Damn near half the cars on this site run S50/S52 engines, suspensions etc thanks to those numbers. People still buy whole E36 M3's just to part them out so please understand where I'm coming from.

Informative? I've been an active BMW enthusiast since 91. I remember when the CCA petitioned to bring it over. Sure there's a market but 10, 20, 50 years doesn't change the fact that the US spec E36 M3 was not a ROW car and watered down to make a price point otherwise it may have never come over. As one of those guys from the era, again, I cannot justify paying $37k for what is not a significant car when I can get one for as little as $3k. Shit, I found clean ones for $7-15k too. In contrast, you can barely find E30 M3 suspension for 3k. All I'm saying is as an M3 enthusiast...if i were to collect M3's, the US spec E36 M3 would be dead last if I were to buy at all. I'd want the real deal eurospec. I think they've been undervalued a long time but come on let's not get crazy.

Informative yes - thats what forums are for. I joined this one to learn about the E30 and everyone has been very helpful and I appreciate the knowledge everyone has shared so I am sharing what I know. Everyone has read the Road/Track articles about how the ROW M3 trumps the US M3.

Anyway, to the OP this is a nice Techno car that just got listed on BAT.

While this is not Daytona or a coupe, its quite similar in shade (a little lighter) but should give you an idea of the market for the color of your car.

Desirable, not super rare. This car will prob go for around 20k due to the color combination, factory options, desirable wheels, and the lovely Dinan documentation and very tasteful upgrades:

Bid for the chance to own a 1997 BMW M3 5-Speed at auction with Bring a Trailer, the home of the best vintage and classic cars online. Lot #15,512.

Even if you bought one of these supposed cheap M3s, to reconfigure this car would cost you 10k just in wheels and parts costs....so if 2 guys REALLY want the car maybe more. Black interior is not so easy to find with a purple exterior.

ReelizMpro just made me feel old. Bastard!!! ;-) Yes. me too I remember 1994 and the new e36 M3 with its powerfull 6 cylinder motor sporting 6 throttle bodies. But hey, wait!!! Only 50 units for Canada and none for the US? Oh, I see. The e30 M3 was a total flop and many brand new units were still up for grab at dealerships until the mid 1990s. I understand that too. But I also remember BMWCCA members petitioning BMW NA to get a watered down M3 at lower cost. Which North America ended up with. A stroker 2.5 with one throttle body. Hardly an M car. But hey, it was still a Mustang 5.0 killer and it outsold Mustangs. But let also remember that as soon as the e46 M3 was presented with its much cleaner body design and real M motor, the US-spec e36 M3 instantly became obsolete. Still a great and cheap track tool, but not something desirable. Even with nostalgia, I really don't see the car being offered here sell for $42k. The e30 M3 collector status is an exception among modern BMWs (of course along the Z1). So, not everything with an M badge is collectible and shall sport a sticker price that goes with it.

BTW I did have an e30 M3 and sold it for way more than I bought it. But as I said, the e30 M3 is an exception. Not many homologation-specials were built by BMW. ;-)
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Yea I passed on an E30 M3 for 6500 in 1997 because i thought "it looked too old and it was a 4 banger". Amazing how things have changed! What you are also seeing with the E36 market is that when the E46 was released, the E36 market tanked as you mention, making plenty of good examples enter the used market for under 10k, targeting a lot of tuners, kids and just overall hack job cars. You can see those cars now being offered as rollers, rust buckets, money shift cars etc. on CL for 6k or less. Again, clean unmolested/documented manual coupes will always fetch a premium. I agree the OP is way off on his price, especially with no documentation, a poor presentation and a few poor photos but it will fetch a premium north of 20k without question. I would say more like 25k if the condition matches the description.

Some people don't live on the internet, signing up to things and not posting is not bad. I've signed up to heaps of sites to sent PMs to buy stuff.

I think to help the sale a heap more info and photos would be nice. photos are free after all. but in saying that if someone is actually interested there is enough info there to tickle their fancy.
