    Euro Kidney Grille New

Selling a brand new unused Euro kidney grille. Retailer didn't want part back after discovering super minor blemish upon delivery, so now one of you is getting a good deal. Blemish in picture, probably not even noticeable when installed, seen in lower right corner of the left-grille. BMW part # 51131884350
    $65 shipped

Can you educate me on the difference between the Euro and US kidney?

See in picture how the top portion of the grille is blocked off? That's the difference. A lot of speculation why they did it differently (aero, cooler temps in Eu etc) but many people like the look just like the headlight grilles.

Center kidney can have more or less area blocked by strip. It is parts 2 and 3 that are clearly different Euro vs. USA - the top of the circle above the headlight openings is notched in USA and continuous for Euro. GLWTS

I guess it depends on who's looking, but it's pretty easy to see the difference in both kidney and headlight grilles. Where debate starts is why Euro cars were different in this regard.

IMO it *might be an airflow thing. If you stare at a US kidney grill directly from the front, some airflow that passes through the top section might get turbulent due to hitting the lower side of radiator support. Maybe Euro grilles send this air over the hood to avoid this...again just speculating.

While cold climate euro spec cars came with a closed off center grill...a partially closed grill doesn't mean it's a euro spec grill. We also got this type (350 grill) on US cars. For instance my 85 325e (bought new) had this same partially closed grill. Then the "S" models and M3's got grills that were wide open. Most people won't notice or care about such a subtle difference. Of course, few cars still have their original grills anymore so this fact was lost over time. If you search realoem, you will see the 350 and 877 (for cars with AC) for US cars.
