If you lightly sand the leds with 1000 grit they will spread/diffuse the light more evenly and you wont have the "hotspots" on the display

I would like to see some other people post pics of their screen after because I don't think the LEDs are leaving "hotspots." My screen is extremely dirty and old, I think that is more of what looks to be hotspots.

Here is one of my LED Lightbars in an OBC with a bad screen. I dont think there is a hotspot.

So these don't work on 6 button OBCs?

No they don't. 6-Button OBC's have a twist-in bulb that lights it up. Just search for some pics of the unit and you will see what I am talking about. You can buy LEDs to replace them, I am unsure of the exact one but there is an LED store online that has them.

                            I did mine in E30 #4....

Since I have the console and seats out I decided to go through and repair all the burned out bulbs inside the car. Both OBC (6bttn) were gone as were the selector indicator light and both ash trays. For some reason there is 11.22v going to all of them and I am going to use 5w L.E.D.'s so after some quick math it looks like I am going to need 330ma resistor. Doin work so I never have another dead bulb or the next owner. :devillook

Got one done and I broke the light diffuser in the OBC used a white in this one but I think I am going to go back and get all orange.

                            Pics in a minute!

I am going back to Affiliated Electronics to get more orange bulbs. The white makes a bright spot in the OBC display. I am either going to use a less intense light, diffuse it with foil and paper, or run two white led's from the side behind the plastic.

With these ancient looking resistors I had a hard time getting the OE OBC bulb sockets to fit, the resistor alone is the size of the old bulb. Tried to take a pic but my wife's camera doesn't like to focus on small up close stuff.

                            Pic of OBC before reassembly:

Done OBC now on to the ashtray! I ended up going with two orange led's on the sides similar to how the lightbar is on the 16 bttn for the display. It's visible in full sun which is good, couldn't even read it before. FTL
                            FTW

^ Cool stuff Mr. Swiss. Thanks for posting. I took a look at the bulbs from the 6-Button and dash and now see how they work. I am going to tinker with one soon. If I am successful I will post more info.
