Ah, I thought this was a direct swap out like the ground to chassis cables....I prefer no to cut any wires out of the harness....

I just installed this cable in my 1991 E30. It is very easy to remove the existing starter cable from the harness. I cut one end off to remove the lug, and then just slid the old cable out of the plastic cover and discarded. Then I installed the new cable along side the plastic harness cover - it looks great.

The quality of the new cables is nice also - I installed all three in my car.
      1. Pos - Alt to Starter
      2. Neg - Oil Pan to Chassis Ground

You don't have to cut anything. You can just tape off the ends of the old wire if you want. Then just run the new one along the side. I did that for testing.
Holy shit did you even read this post before you posted?

                      Hi Greg,

I just installed my M42 grounding cable, which look great!
I noticed though, that the new grounding cable was much longer than the old one. Was this by design? Thanks!

Yeah, looks like the late model 318i cars had a shorter ground cable than the earlier models which spec'd the 16 inch cable. Regardless, the extra length wont make much difference and should be easier to install.

Noticed 4 cables for the S14 model (M3). Is this all needed? I thought there was 7 cables to be repalced to do a complete earth ground maint.
