    SOLD SOLD SOLD 2 piece Euro-valance (Mtech1, 323i)

Just received an early model (pre 9/85) E30 2 piece front metal valance, and realized after purchase (doh) that it will not work with my Jimmy Hill lip. So I'm selling.

If you know what these parts are you also know how rare they are. This is the early model 2 piece euro valance with the fog light holes. The narrow piece still has the "BMW Original Parts" sticker on it with part number. There are no markings on the larger metal piece but it looks almost new - like it's never been installed. It may in fact be a repro part, but it looks quite good if it is.

    Part numbers: 41331916986 and 41331884353

Looking to get what I paid, $300 shipped CONUS. Not looking to take a loss so price is firm.
PM me if you're interested. Can turn it around pretty quickly if you're in a hurry :-)

    A lot more background info:

Here's a BMW brochure pic of an early model 318i front end featuring an oem spoiler

Here are some pics of pre 9/85 E30 front ends with (1) oem lip with the fog light holes (e30.de) (2) oem spoiler (socal323i) (3) pfeba spoiler (kronus) and (4) foha air dam (dunno owner).

Yes. There is one for up to 9/85 and another one from 9/85 to 9/87 and they’re not interchangeable.

The lower lip piece for the 9/85 to 9/87 valance is part #51 71 1 943 868 and is the bigger, darker one in these pics:

There were two OEM Air dams available for the early Euro cars (up to 9/85) one was M-Tech and the other wasn't. The non M-Tech bolts to the same holes that the black lower lip thing used and the M version replaces the whole valance.

    The non M is part #51 71 1 932 197
    M-Tech is part # 51 11 1 929 559

    Here’s the non M-tech version:

Differences between pre 9/85 and 9/85-87

The early one ('83-'85) sweeps back and screws directly to the radiator support. That's the one the 137 Alpina valence mounts to.

The late one ('86-'87) is more vertical and has about 2" standoffs for mounting to the radiator support. The Alpina 147 mounts to this one.

Other lips are also incompatible between the two valences. For example, the Jimmy Hill lip mounts only to the late one, and the Pfeba lip with the shark gills mounts only to the early one.

no worries.. Mtech1 requires euro bumpers, and came with a metal valance behind the front spoiler.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

as a current owner of this valence and a former owner of a Jimmy Hill lip, it does not.

So only a prefacelift / late model E30 euro valance will work with a Jimmy Hill lip?
Are they still available from BMW?

Yeah that's right, the Jimmy Hill valances are still available new from BMW (just bought one a couple of months ago). 51711943868 for the oil cooler hole version, 51711943867 without center holes.

There are 3 types of E30 front metal valances, and some differences between US and ROW (rest of world). Each of the valance types places limitations on the type of plastic lip / spoiler / air dam or apron you can use with it. They also use different fog light (and fog blank setups)

more info here, which has lots of links to other sources

                      1) Before 9/85. These cars all had chrome euro bumpers. It's a 2 piece valance - the one I'm selling now, 41331916986 and 41331884353. As Kronus will tell you (since he's owned one), the bottom of the valance attaches to the rad support area. So it is angled towards the rear of the car when you look at it from the side.

I captured all the valance/spoiler options for these valances earlier in the thread. Mtech1 is one of the options.

                      2) After 9/85 up to 9/87. This is a 1 piece metal valance, and the cars still used euro bumpers. There are several types, and I can give you the part numbers here:

-- The 41331933770 and 41331933772 valances are what folks in the US call euro valances. The only difference is oil cooler / AC vent holes in the center. From the name you can tell they were used on chrome bumper cars in Europe (and rest of world that didn't mandate 5MPH bumpers)

-- the 41331933771 valance used in the US for diving board cars.

Jimmy Hill lips (both A/C and non-A/C) work with ALL of these valances. Mtech1s work, so do the Alpina 147, and bunch of aftermarket lips and spoilers. For Hartge details go talk to Raul (e30m3s54turbo)

the US 87is came with it's own unique front spoiler. It works with diving boards. Someone can chime in about it working with euro bumpers.

                      3) 89-on coupes and sedans are all plastic bumper cars worldwide. These are the "late model" cars, and they use the 41331961225 (no oil cooler holes) and 41331961227 valances for plastic bumpers. About 99% sure that ALL late model plastic bumper US cars came with the 41331961227 valance. Some US 88 cars like my IX Coupe have a bizarre combination of the 41331961227 late model valance+lips and diving boards. Super easy to swap to plastic bumpers though :-)

So to be accurate both 1) and 2) above are "pre-facelift", since they both use euro chrome bumpers. They are not compatible though when it comes to lips and fogs - consider 2) above a "pre-facelift facelift" if you like :-)

Mtech2s work with the late model setup, so do IS lips.

One more thing on these dates, related to the convertible. They were built in a separate factory and unlike the euro convertibles, the US models didn't change over to plastic bumpers until 10/90. Per realoem the first factory E30 verts were built in 7/85 (non-US), 10/86 for US verts. I seriously doubt there were ever any convertibles built with this 2 piece valance setup
