I went to refresh my shift mechanism with Z3 shifter and Garagistic DSSR & refresh kit. The shifter won't fit into the DSSR.

My shifter didn't have the bushing sticking out so I filed the inner faces of the dssr. Same resultSeat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch. Email John or Garrett at ninestitch1@gmail.com

Hello,
Yes some tiny bit of filing may be required. We have that note in the description:
Please note: Compatible with oem style shiftier only (some shifters will need to be slightly filed down to fit). 1984 - 1988 models must change to later BMW selector joint part# 25117503525Comment

I wasn't complaining. I got this, all the refresh parts, the Treehouse Lolipops & clutch stop everything came quickly well packaged and as described. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something and have since gotten it to fit.Hello,

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. He mentioned it uses bolts instead of pins, I'd like to see a picture of the bolts being used. There is a reason that stock used pins and clips. One that I can immediately think of is the force being applied to the shift rod. The majority of it is lateral (shifting up and down the gears) and so you will have massive side to side forces against the bolt/pin. With a Pin using a clip on the outside, this I would think is somewhat alleviated by spreading load across the outside face of the rod (around the hole.)
If the bolt is indeed threaded in to the rod itself and not nutted on the outside, the force will be on one side of the threads, and eventually may pull them out of the rod.. Other wise, if it is using a nut on the outside, then it wouldn't be much of a tear out issue.
It's a great looking piece, and for a street car, seems like a decent upgrade, I would just want to see some real world feedback/data before I committed for any of the racecars.
worse case you buy some replacent high grade steel bolts and problem solved. I would think the engineering in this design has been worked out.
A chain is strongest at it's weakest link. I think the bushings in the knuckle and shifter rod would wear out and create ovaling before the bolt would shear off or wear out the slector rod holes.
if the oem stuff can hold out for a time before it goes to shit. There should be zero problem with this set up.sigpicComment
