Queiton for you. I have an E30 Cab w/ the E30 swtiches (stock, sounds like what you have). So i get that I need 2 of your modules.

Where woudl these go? Woudl i needot dig down to the door panels to do this? or in the Console under the switches?

I'm very interested in this project, and as soon as youhave something marketable I'll be ponying up!

    Thanks!

They'll need to go by the switches under the console. Each module is going to be about the size of a stick of gum, so you'll be able to squeeze two of them in there without any trouble.

I'm hoping that I have a working prototype here in a week or two.

Right now we're having to work on how to still power the lightbulbs. The switch circuit design for the e30 and e36 is really archaic. The entire current and voltage for the circuit travels through the switch, instead of through relays which is how newer ones work. The chips work on VERY low current, so we're going to have to use a regulator and two relays for them. The only other problem is that the lightbulbs aren't powered separetely, so we may have to use two power regulators. That being said, due to the increase in components, the chips are probably going to be more like $70 (which is still at least $50 cheaper than anything on the market).
Some sample chips have been ordered, and as soon as the lab at Portland State U is back open (hopefully soon), we can get in there any start testing everything.

some e36 window switches don't light up...perhaps that could simplify your design?

I would be down for sure, I'm going to start moving the full one touch system over from my e36 parts car soon so give me an update, thermo sensor would be hott but maybe include it just to tilt the sunroof, in case of rain. rain sensors are a little overboard IMHO , one touch sunroof as well right and for sure E36 switches.

How many of you would be willing to sacrifice the lights on the switches?

i think everyone knows where the switches are in our cars...right where they should be...and might I add not very difficult to locate.

Hopefully some other guys will chime in with their thoughts, I know i'd have no problems.

id like to keep the lights but at 70 bucks youre starting to lose me, wed still have to buy the switches, this is getting up to 200 bucks for window switches, i mean i have wasted alot of money but 200 bucks on window switches just seems like alot.
but ill be damned if i dont want them
im on the fence at the moment

i would think retention on the lighted switches would be fairly easy why not hook the light circuit seperate from the module and tie it to the dash lights ?
