**Thanks for the ultra-quick shipping--arrived today. Professionally packaged as well.Originally posted by einstein57 View PostWhenever you replace a 20 year old part with another 20 year old part that it will fail very quickly. If the mechanicals are binding for some reason it could prematurely wear the actuators. Another common problem is the weather stripping on the door is dry rotted and water gets in to the actuator and corrodes it. New weather stripping is about $12.
Thanks

First off did your locks work before you started?
Second you have to make sure those wires are making a good contact.
But otherwise it looks good to me.I dont see the need of grounding the green as bernzspeed said .I didnt do it and works fine for me .
I also did install mine in the trunk which was much easier

dang... Yes my locks worked, just only from the trunk and passenger side...
could that be my problem...
I referred to the electrical diagram for the specific car I'm installing it in.
You should ground the 2 yellows, the green and the black.
What year is your car? Is it coupe or 4 dr?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

.....Thanks to this post.
Also FYI the cheap quick connects i was using just wouldn't cut it...
I had to use butt connectors..

To everyone who does this and wants to mount this in the trunk, here is a small breakdown of the wires (mine is a 1989 so it may differ):
[unit wire: body wire]
red with fuse: positive side on battery
Black wire: negative wire
White wire: Green w/black stripe (by trunk actuator)
White w/black stripe wire: green w/violet stripe (also by actuator)
Yellow wire: ground
Yellow wire with black stripe: ground
Haven't started the flashers yet but this is something to help get started.
!!!!!! UPDATE!!!!!!
Thanks Guys, I got that shit down!
The damn quick splices did not work for me either!!!
You should check the actuator in the trunk to see what your wire color combo is. Also, I did not use the Orange, Orange/Black, Red/Black, Pink, or Green wires.
Here's the two tables that I made to help guide me to get it done...
I used 8 wires listed on the table from the keyless entry.
3 of those 8 wires from the keyless entry are HIGHLIGHTED Yellow, and are all ground to the same place.
The other 5 wires actually connect/splice into wires in the car, which is in the center column.
Lastly the third column shows what functions those wires do.
This is the one that worked in my 91 318is coupe
Hope this helps, over thinkers, and noobs like me!Last edited by thebutcher37; 02-18-2012, 01:57 AM.

Here are the two wires that run behind the speaker that you need to tap in to. You don't need to remove the speaker but it helps to relieve slack on the lines. Also the yellow taps i've been including are hit or miss. They are too wide. The blue ones are the correct size. I just squeezed them together a little on this install.
These were supposed to be the two that you connect from the light switch but mike is color blind. lol
My modified units that i do on my installs. Do not copy this as it will void your warranty. lol
