I just got done painting all my aluminum trim with SEM. The stuff works great! According to the can it's made for aluminum. It was $14 a can local but work every bit. You can go to there website and find a local dealer. It's usually a shop that supplies the local body shops. I just hit all the trim with 400 grit (cause that's what I had laying around) and about 3-4 coats just to be on the safe side. It dries quick and sticks good. It's hard to mess it up. Which is good for me. :DComment

The chrome bit come off the grill part. Take a bit of skillz....but a lot easier and than that masking nightmare. Just FYI.Comment

The SEM is always found at your local upholstery supply store, most carry the full line.
I am not talking an arts and crafts store, but an actual upholstery supply house.
But...SEM has gone to shit. I have been using that same shit since about 1983, it used to have a wonderful spray, very consistent. These days if I plan on using SEM, I soak it in warm water for half an hour before use if it is below 70 degrees out.
Oh, BTW, I use about 20 cans a year typically. Back when I was young and the car stereo business was actually BUSY, I used 10 cans or so a month. Every car stereo shop worth a shit has at least a dozen colors hanging around, and SEM does MUCH better at selection that anyone.
Duplicolor (AKA VHT, same company) on the other hand, has improved quality tremendously. It absolutely kicks the shit out of SEM in every other way, from spray to coverage to durability.Comment

yeah, duplicolor trim black is every bit as good as SEM, and much cheaper. I can't believe how expensive SEM has gotten, I can get it locally off the shelf too..Comment

I've had duplicolor paint on some parts of my trim (particularily the euro plate filler) that has lasted the last 8 years just fine.Comment

I redid some trim with SEM last summer and it's holding up really well (except where I chipped my shadowline with an ice scraper and the is spoiler cause SEM isn't flexible). I'd use it again, but it runs around $12-15 for a can around here so I'll proally switch to duplicolor when I redo the shadowline and finish some other trim work.Comment
