TimNJ (Tim Egan) - Unpleasant transaction

    (This took place on E30Tech):

Normally, I would have forgiven a transaction like this, because lord knows, there's been times that it's taken me FAR longer than it should have to get something out to a buyer/seller. I really had not that much of an issue with things taking a little longer than expected. But after the PM I just got from my buyer, TimNJ, this needs to be brought to attention.

Tim agreed to buy my black painted diving board bumpers from me on 08/14/06. He told me he would pay with Paypal, but since my account is in the red due to an overcharge, I didn't want to lose $50 in the transfer. So he told me that he would have to take his mom's credit card to get a money order. No big deal. Almost a week later, I get a PM from him saying that the post office would only take cash and not a credit card for the money order, and that he would have to go back the next day with cash. Another near week goes by with almost no contact, and then finaly an AIM convo saying that he was going to send it the next day, and that he would have to send cash. I VERY reluctantly agreed, even after giving him a break on the price because he didn't have quite enough. He told me I would get a PM that day, saying that he sent it. No PM the next day.

So the day after, I get a PM saying that he sent the money. This was Wednesday of last week. Today is Saturday, and I still have no money. I know that a standard letter going cross-country only takes 3-5 business days (having worked in a post office for 2 years). So knowing that it could come Tuesday (Monday is labor day), I sent a PM simply stating that today was Saturday, and the money hadn't shown up yet, nothing more. This was the PM I got back today:

I promtly sent a PM back telling him that if he had send a money order like I told him to, that this would be a non-issue. But since that was too hard, his only course of action was to assume that I have stolen his money.

Sounds like if you had your ducks in a row and had your paypal account fixed and if he had his ducks in a row and had his own credit card or knew how to get a money order properly this would not have happened.

    Get your paypal fixed Josh.

Paypal sucks. I will not use them anymore so I completely understand letting it go Josh, however I would have told him not to send cash and if he insisted on doing that, that I would in no way be responsible in the event the usps caused it's disappearance.

I am very familiar with usps losses, in 1982 I moved back to L.A. from Oahu and being a poor student barely scrapped together enough to ship my property (8 pretty large boxes, no insurance) which contained clothes, tools, stereo, cd collection, books, etc. I got 5 of the 8 boxes and of course the missing contained the most expensive items (stereo, snapon tools, cd collection)

As an aside, my Mom sent me a magazine about three weeks ago from L.A. to Laredo and it just got there Friday. It should have been there in five days at the most. The mail is slow right now.

I'm in the process, my wife signed us up for this Disney Movie Club, it's kind of like a Columbia House kind of thing. Well, since we moved, we haven't been getting the notices that they want to send us another movie, so they've just been charging them to our Paypal. The only time I have money in there is when I'm planning to use it, so it dropped it into the red by like $45. I'm in the process of getting them to reverse it.

Yeah, it will probably get here Tuesday. When I sent him the PM stating that it was Saturday and I didn't have the money yet, that was ALL I said, I wasn't upset or anything, I was merely giving him an update.

          RE: TimNJ

I've also had problems with TimNJ. I purchased a full set Bilsteins from him. The process took forever! He claimed he was busy with Waterfest (or whatever it's called), but even after that event, it took him 2 more weeks to just ship out. Totalling around 3 to 4 weeks wait to SHIP...The only way I actually grabbed his attention was to file a claim on Paypal. Otherwise who knows. Eventually, I cancelled the Paypal claim for two reasons: He was nagging that Paypal suspended his only credit card, and he sent me a customs number as proof of shipment.

The package was in transit for quite sometime. TimNJ, then accused me of scamming him. Implying that I had already received the package...

2 weeks later, now totallying 6 weeks wait, I got the package. The shocks were all taped up, leaving sticky glue all over them, including the portion of the shocks that slide in. I spent some time trying to remove the glue. He also did a very poor job of packaging the item as there was no padding and the box was falling apart.

After opening the package, I noticed something missing... He didn't send me the Rear Bushings. I started thinking that I SHOULD NEVER CANCEL A PAYPAL CLAIM UNTIL IT GET THE ITEM(s). Since then, I have failed to contact this guy. If anyone knows another way of contacting him, let me know...

          Thanks

Today is 7 days since Tim claims he mailed the money. I used to work in a post office, no standard letter, even going across the country, takes this long. Even around major holidays, 7 days is pushing it.

True but I figured my magazine was losat as I knew my Mom sent it and it took three weeks L.A. to Laredo (1800 miles more or less).

I'd say he did not mail it too if I were you but you never know. Is he giving you a hard time? Did he use no insurance or tracking?

              If not what a tool.

Josh, I had a guy do the same to me, Claimed he sent 100 cash because he couldnt use his credit card to get a money order .
After about 3 weeks of waiting on the cash to arrive, And countless accusations that i stole his money. He disappeared and i havent heard from him since.
Sounds like this guy is trying to pull a fast one on you:roll:

No tracking or anything, and he's telling me that the "holiday" probably has something to do with it.

Exactly. Forget Mother's Day and Christmas, Labor Day slows the US Postal Service to a standstill.

                          Must be.

I assume you are still cashless? I'd put them back up for sale and in the infinitesimal event you get the money deal with returning it.

He went ahead and Paypal'd me the money, and I still haven't recieved the cash in the mail. Which leads me either to believe that he never actually mailed it, or someone did in fact swipe it. I'm inclined to go with option A, because no one mails $200 in cash, and then Paypals another $200 when it doesn't show up for a set of diving boards.

Josh ,good to see that you got the funds and that the deal is going through .
                              I vote option A .

Oh and you could not pay me $200 to take a set of diving boards . :p
