I got rid of mine, I like not having that stuff in the engine bay, saves a tiny amount of weight, and no gross fluids in the engine bay.

what if your running big huge steam rollers? like 275.40.17's all the way around?

I could see PS delete w/ 215's but huge tires would make it a PITA right?

The rack is not lubricated by the powersteering fluid.

Just undo the lines, turn wheel back and forth until most of the fluid is out, then plug it up. (and by that, i mean with the car on jackstands, grab one of the wheels and turn back and forth, not the steering wheel. That would take forever)

Having fluid in there w/o pwr steering will actually make it more difficult to turn. Get as much out as you can (doesn't have to be bone dry though).

I actually used the stock banjo bolts, with electrical tape wound around the holes. All you're looking to do is prevent debris from getting in.

What about putting grease in the rack as mentaleeill has done? Would that help any?

+10 -- Mine has been like this for 2 years and works perfectly. And...the m3 rack I am using was unknown mileage when installed. I actually bought one of those power steering delete blocks last week from a guy on the forum because i thought it looked like a tidy little fix for leaving the holes open.

IMHO greasing the rack will stiffen up the gears and make it harder to turn

my steering at low speeds is a little difficult already on 235s, so yes. no powersteering would suck for me, but it might be fine on 205s or whatever the kids are stretching onto 9" rimz these days. ;)
