    G260 clutch Bleed

Hello! I have a 86 325 with a m52 hooked to a g260. As I learn more and more about fixing cars one thing I have yet to and can’t seem to find how to do is bleed the clutch on my e30. I believe there’s air in the line because sometimes the clutch will only return half way but there is no external leak and the previous owner recently replaced the slave. Is there anyone who can tell me how to bleed this system? Is it any different on a 24v e30 with the tilted geometry and such? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I always bleed the slave cyl with it removed from the trans, up against the lower side of the trans tunnel/floor. I typically remove the slave cyl, open the bleeder slightly, and let it hang for a bit like that, then close bleeder and see where I'm at before bleeding. 97.6% of the time the gravity feed is all ya need, but if it needs more, you already have the slave off so I just bleed up against the floor of the car. This method has not failed me yet.

Possibly related info: if you're using your original '86 325e trans it will have a "deep" bellhousing (6 7/8 from slave cyl mounting face to end of bellhousing), which has an accommodating slave cylinder with a longer throw than the shallow bellhousing g260. It is also possible someone could've used the incorrect slave when replacing it. Just a thought.

make sure your clutch pedal return spring is present and in good condition. they've been known to wear or go missing.

Clutch pedal return spring isn't necessary on an E30. Hydraulic pressure from a properly bled system is sufficient. None of my cars that I've manual swapped have/had return springs, and I've never had an issue.

never seen a car that didn't have one.
