Ok, this might sound like a stupid question, but I DID MY RESEARCH, and could not find this question posted or anything that could remotely answer it. A lot of people have done (or are in the process of doing) m50 or s50 (some guys have all the luck) swaps. But I don´t see anybody considering or even talking about m52 or m54 (found mostly on e46) swaps. I´m guessing it´s not doable for a reason I fail to see, other than those engines are maybe harder to come by. Won´t they fit? Too much stuff to replace/upgrade/custom build? Please someone prove me wrong, or otherwise share their knowledge on this matter, ´cause I´ve seen a lot of e46 totaled but with their engines intact. Thanks!

Obviously, M52's and s52's are done all the time. You're talking about dual VANOS found in E-46's. Not many have been done, but the motors are becoming much more common as the E46's find their way to the wrecker's.
The two options are retaining the complete OBD2 wiring or converting to OBD1 and implenting standalone VANOS control. I know a guy that's done the OBD1 route... http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthre...54+foolishness

M52 > M50
I think lots of people do M52s, but everyone seems to have this strange infatuation with NV M50s.. ugh. :p
the M54 will probably be more common as the supply of low mile E36 motors drys up and the technology for running the newer motors becomes more accessible. Hell, standalone engine management is already light years ahead of where it was 5-10 years ago.

How much do M52 swaps run for about? what are some benefits to running one OBD 1 as opposed to the alternatives?Originally posted by ebelementsAlso, for those who don't know, negative camber is the greatest thing since sliced bread(panera). Even tire wear is for city busses and the elderly.
