I'm curious if everyone passes the emmissions testing where they are? I'm in Atlanta and will have to pass the "sniff" test. Has anyone had problems? Is the e30 charcol canister part of the emissions system, does it need to be hooked up in the swap. I also will be running a cat, most likely a magnaflow or similar.

90% of passing emissions comes down to these things:

 1) Quality catalyst, at operating temperature.
 2) Quality tune that's set for the modifications done to the motor
 3) Working O2 sensor connected to the ECU

Now, I have done this enough to know a few more things...

Aftermarket cats are terrible quality. Stick with BMW OEM if you need to pass emissions.

O2 sensor is CRITICAL if you want to pass emissions.

And the most important thing is to drive the freaking piss out of the car before you get it tested. Heat up your catalyst and it will work much better.

It really depends on your smog laws. Here in CA everything has to be hooked up. Universal cats are no longer even legal. Well, those cheap $70 cats aren't, but the $300+ magnaflow cats are...

And I agree on driving the crap out of the car before smog, to heat up the cat.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

Did you email me about this? If so I replied today. Sorry, I was at the track all weekend.

There is no reason you can't pass emissions with the mods you want on your car, you just need to have it running well, have a good cat, and have a tune for the mods.Comment

I was being specific as the first three posters in the thread are all in the Atlanta area. I freely admit that I don't have the first clue what is required in other areas including CA, but I believe the actual values for emissions are federally mandated, so if it passes a sniffer in GA it will pass in CA also.Comment

Nope I didnt. The tune I have is from you. Its for 24 pound injectors and euro maf. I think though I didnt drive it long enough and I have a crappy cat. I am going fi so I have a 3in cat but after that 2.25's into a remus muffler. So should I get a mid section of an e36 m3 and reweld it in?Comment
