Wiring help Please.

My borther and I where trying to get my S50 all prewired today to install it but we ran into a bit of a problem. My harness is in great shape but how can I be sure that I am plugging all of the connectors under the intake manifold into the correct plugs? Is there a diagram or a trick that you guys are using? I just dont like trial and error.

Color code on the wires.

The only diagram I can find does not lay out the wire color. Does anyone have. Good one they can post up. I need to figure out what color the wires are for
knock sensors
tps
coolant
vanos
IACV
crankshaft position
evap
IAT
oil pressure
and any other two or three wire little bastards that go under the intake manifold.

The only way to do it, foolproof and 100%, is to check continuity between the plug and the different pins on the ECU connector. I don't have the reference to the pinout on the ECU, but if pin 45 is "knock 1-3" check all the plugs until one beeps, that's the plug for the forward knock sensor.

BTW, both knock sensors have the same wire colors so you HAVE to do this!

I found a diagram with color codes but they made no sense. Then I found the manic decoder ring.
RT =red
RS=pink
GE=yellow
SW=black
TR=clear

Traced each one to the Main connector at the DME. I will make a graph for future reference.

What is the plug next to the oxy sensor?

No tricks, just read the appropriate page in the Bentley manual or the BMW ETM.

oil pressure sensor BRN/GRN or BRN/GRY
front coolant temperature sensor (ECU) BRN/RED BRN
rear coolant temperature sensor (Gauge Sensor) BRN/YEL BRN/VIO
crank position sensor YEL
cam position sensor YEL RED/WHT BRN/ORG
VANOS solenoid RED/WHT GRN/BLU
knock sensor, 1-3 BLK NCA DME PIN 70
knock sensor, 4-6 BLK NCA DME PIN 69
throttle position sensor (TPS) BRN BRN/BLK RED/YEL
intake air temperature (IAT) sensor BRN GRY
idle control valve (ICV) WHT/YEL RED/WHT WHT/GRN
Evaporative emissions valve BRN RED/WHT

Thanks for that I will double check everything. So does anyone know what the one next to the oxy does? Is it a back up switch?

yes

I just tied it off and used the stock E30 backup wiring with the E30 backup switch in an E36 transmission.
