I just finished an S50 swap into a 318is, following info in this forum. My 95 M3 DME wouldn't allow the engine to start presumably because of the EWS, so I am currently running it with a DME from a 93 525i. Long term, I plan on getting a chip that will allow me to use the DME from the M3, but short term, I need something so I can get it to the muffler shop and the alignment shop. Can this cause any serious problems?

It should start and run on that, although the chip is far from optimal. As long as you don't get on the gas hard I don't think it will hurt anything.I just finished an S50 swap into a 318is, following info in this forum. No mention of what ecu you have. 413 with proper chip is what most use.Comment

My 93 525i DME is a red label 413. My 95 M3 DME is a silver label 413. The engine starts, idles well, revs without hesitation, and had gobs of power the one time that I got on it. The injectors of both the 2.5l engine and the 3.0 liter engine are green. I assume that means they are of the same size. If the injectors are the same capacity, then I am hoping the DME will correctly measure the fuel. Tomorrow I will connect a wide band air/fuel meter to test this theory.Richard

 I have a stock S50 chip (it's jay's actually) without EWS. From a '94 production M3.

 I'll look for it.

I wholeheartedly recommend TRM though. We put one of their chips in Jay's car and it runs like a top. Comment
