e34 Wiring Harness (If you're using this chime in)

Ok, i've searched a lot and been around a while and seen there is all sorts of conflicting information on using these harnesses, so i'd like to get the straight goods from people that have used it.

Does the ECU fit in the stock location? If so how tight any slack left on cable?

Can you move the diagnostic connector to the proper spot on the wiring covers we all use? Or do you have to extend the wiring?

Do you have to run an additonal power wire? Or any other wires for that matter?

no it does not fit in the stock location unless you cut and extend the wires about 8" and yes you can make the diagnostic connector fit but you need to pull the harness apart to do it. no you do not need to run any other wires aside for the main battery cable to the starter and and alt
imo get the e36 harness and add the oil level plug

I am using the e34 harness and was able to fit the ecu in the sock location but I had to turn it. The connector us facing toward the drivers side. No big deal really. The diag port fits perfect in the 318/m3 covers.

I've used both e36 and e34. There's things I like about both of them. For the e34, I like the shape of the splice box, I like that it doesn't have extra power cables running through it that you don't need. I don't like that the relays and diagnostic plug have switched sides. I have the ECU in the battery tray right now with an e34 harness but haven't tried to mount it in the cabin, I access the ECU too often.

I prefer e36, but only slightly.

One nice thing about the e34 is the oil level sensor.

My ECU plug reaches the glovebox just fine. Mount it with e30 318is mounts and call it a day.

My oil level sensor is co-located with the dipstick.. ha ha.

Yeah yeah, I know. haha. It's nice to have that extra safeguard though. You never know what stupid stuff could happen, a oil plug backs out or something retarded like that. It's nice to have an idiot light just in case!

I'm using the e34 harness too. Hopefully I'll be converting in two weeks. The M20 is gone this weekend.
