Actually, I can hear the fuel pump working and I get gas from the fuel line too. Wiring looks good too. There is absolutely nothing from the starter when the key is turned.
I'll have to get in there again and do some diagnosing. Its just a bummer 'cause I don't get down to work on the car too often (1/2 hour away). I was hoping to fire it up today.

hmm that adapter I made you was tested on my own car and worked... so you are saying that the motor will not even turn over when you engage it with the key in the crank position???Comment
-
yep, exactly right. are there any extra pins in the adapter plug? It seemed when I was plugging it in that the adapter had a few more than the e30 chassis harness. Should I look a little closer at this?

I had the same problem with my m30 swap. I forgot to put the ground strap on the engine. Check that outFirst: 1984 318i
Second: 1987 325
Third: 1987 325is
Current: 1990 325i (Soon To Be 335i)Comment

Car should crank fine with or without the DME even installed.Comment

the crank signal is pin # 18 on both the e36 side and the e30 side. but the adapter is know working as once again it was tried and worked on my own car and if you look at the etm for you car is shows the same pin for your year e30...I am thinking ether you starter is hooked up wrong or its a bad starter.Comment

Hey Greg, my car is an '87 325i. Is yours the same? When connecting the adapter, I noticed that there were some vacant holes in both the adapter and the chassis harness. These vacant holes did not match up exactly in all cases. I figured that some of the pins were unnecessary or something of the sort. I'll get some pics up tonight.

engine is grounded and has been turned over by hand with a wrench (its not frozen or internally damaged).
if an ews dme does not stop the starter from cranking, I'm looking at the adapter and starter wiring as possible problem areas.
