Which 24v should I use for a swap?

I don't think I would go the s52/50 route because I would imagine they cost a lot more since they come out of M cars. So which model of M50 or M52 should I try to hunt down?

I've seen two threads counting this one from you that could have ben answered by using the new and improved search function.

I think the M52 being a 2.8 liter non ///M engine would be the better bang for the buck. With the money saved you could then boost it and make way more power than the S50.

M50 NV is the best platform in the longrun. For boost etc. If you just want some nice power off the bat. do S5x

The OBD1 M52. If I were to do mine over again I would do the M52 w/S52 cams.

i cant think of a single way that a nonvanos is the best in the long run.

An s5x isn't that much more if you are doing the swap the correct way. I spent 2100 on the engine and around 6k total, most of the cost is in the other stuff. I think people manage to do m50 swaps for so cheap because they cheap out on it.

the swap really isnt expensive to do... most of the important parts (driveshaft, booster, mount arms/oil pan, etc) can be had at scrap yards, and mounts, whatever seals are needed, etc, are pretty cheap.

Well, technically the best in the long run would be a 2.3L M50 from what I understand, as the block can handle the most boost.

It really depends on your power goals and if you want F.I.

Do some research, there's a wealth of information here, and on other bimmer boards.

I would not even bother with a NV M50.... M52 at least!

Thanks for responding guys. For the search police - I am searching, but a couple of simple questions get me pointed in the right direction and saves HOURS. Thanks.

meh, coming for an m42 i'm pretty satisfied with my m50. my m50 isn't much of an m50 anymore though.

m52 crank, rods, pistons, s50 cams, 16lb flywheel, trm chip...the thing definitely moves so i can't complain. if i had an s52 i probably would have lost my license by now ;)
