stock s52 is about 240 right?
What "bolt ons" bring an s52 to 300hp and what's the cost?

WHP for a stock S52 will be around 195-210 on a Dynojet, depending on the car, the dyno, and the condition of the engine. I have seen as high as 220 or so for freak engines, but those are the anomalies, with the majority of the stock dynos that I have seen coming in at the ~ 205 whp mark.
clydesdale, if you are looking for 300 NA whp, it isn't going to be realistic without either delivering a dumptruck full of money to an engine builder, or going FI. If you are looking for 300 crank hp, then it can be done with a properly setup cam kit.Comment

I am talking about my experience. I have been watching S52s dyno since 1996, and from what I have seen, the average for a stock S52, following up to JGood's post above me, on the Boston area Dynojets = Around 205 whp.
But those are some really nice modified S5x dynos!
Here's mine:

I am telling you what I have seen, repeatedly, since the S52 debuted. Most put down around 205 whp stock on a Dynojet, a good number put down ~210-215 whp, and some were even higher. That's their number.
Why? Have you seen something different?Comment

I assume you mean 225 whp, and I also assume that you mean posted online.
My original S52 out of my 1997 M3 put down 209 whp stock, on the Boston Dyno Dynojet.
With ERT Double-belt crank pulley, Conforti CAI, Dinan Stage II SW, and a B&B Tri-Flo, it put down 225 whp, and 225 TQ on the same dyno.
With the UDP removed, and an AA LTW flywheel added along with the M50 manifold, it put down 234 whp and 215 TQ on the same dyno.
These numbers are right in line with just about every S52 that I saw dyno'd from the Boston BMWCCA from the 1997-2005 years, at which point I moved to CT, sold my original engine, and bought the race engine that now resides in my E30.
I can only speak from my personal experience.Comment
