Yes indeed. I don't doubt someone can engineer some cool crap to put together a highly tuned S50US. Hog out the ports. Install hot, HOT cams. Increase compression. Install a trick ass valvetrain, larger valves, solid lifters, etc. Design, simulate, and build a tuned intake manifold and custom exhaust collector to have maximum performance at upper engine speeds.
You should have just said this, instead of saying, I'm going to make a 350whp S50US, and to mark your words.
Isn't that the exact kind of pompousness that we should all strive to avoid?
What "bolt ons" bring an s52 to 300hp and what's the cost?

I'm not the op. You don't have to keep this thread alive at all. I will update my build thread.Leave a comment:

c'mon guys give him a break....
and,
Op, just build the damn engine already.Leave a comment:

hey, you're the one calling me pompous. I'm just wondering when you'll post something back up your claims with. Still nothing? Okay then, I'll go back to my pathetic e-life.
btw, I just saw a supercharged E46 M3 graph.. 360whp or so. hah!Leave a comment:

Thank you for spewing more of the cliche pompous abrasivness in my direction.
Why don't you all sit back and continue with your daily interneting and car culture. I have some things I need to take care of before I start on this project. I will keep you updated on my progress. How about we all just sit back and see what I can do rather than speculate.
Regardless of the actual hp I end up making, it will be a highly custom and in-depth build and it will yeild some impressive numbers.Leave a comment:

no, I couldn't have said that, because I would be lying. I don't like lying. Plus you were asked how you were going to do it, and the only thing you had to back it up with was "I'm an engineer".
I do hope you learn something about engines, but I think you would be better off spending your $9k on an S54 swap. at least then you would be somewhat closer to your goals, and it would have a chance of actually happening.Leave a comment:

I understand you're all skeptical, but so far most of you have been incredibly abrasive about it, rather actually want to hear what I have to say or offer.
Prior to this interaction, I was actually very pleased with what r3v had to offer. You were all very accepting of my car and I would have had nothing bad to say. God forbid someone venture from the norm and have a crazy idea though.
Can't you just say " not likely, but I hope you do" or "that's crazy, I can't wait to see the outcome" or "hey, that sounds tough, what are some of your thoughts to get there"
Nope, not on the Internet, everyone thinks they know everything, and if they don't know you, you don't know anything.Leave a comment:

dude, all I have to do is look at your unrealistic claims and expectations to know you don't have a clue. You don't know anything about me or my knowledge of engines. Keep up the stereotypes chief, you represent us well. Being a mod means you must have some sort of responsibility.
Most forums I frequent, the mods are the voice of reason and "moderate", not antagonize and nay-say.
okay, how about this. in order to make your magical 350whp, you're going to need over 100% ve at 9000rpm. the 3.2l crank has an 89.6mm stroke. at 9000rpm, you'll have a mean piston velocity over 26m/s. Even race engines don't go that high. Never mind even the E46 M3 CSL doesn't go over 100% ve, nor anywhere near that high of a redline.
Maybe you should be working for BMW M, because you're apparently a better engineer than all of them combined.Leave a comment:

you came to the wrong forum then
kidding aside, i don't see nando antagonizing here. he's simply stating the skepticism that we all feel about your claims. you can't expect us to believe you based on no credible information as to how you expect to realize these hp gains.Leave a comment:

Way to keep up the BMW stereotype of people who say you cannot extract more then 100% mechanical efficiency out of an engine nando.Leave a comment:
